Bournemouth Sports (1) 2, Poole Borough (1) 2. Elite Teamware Dorset Premier League Saturday 17th January 2004 Borough Scorers: James Edwards 11, Kieron Campbell
90. Despite dominating the game, Borough faced the prospect of defeat after Sports took the lead in injury time, but a dramatic a late equaliser from Kieran Campbell rescued a point for the Hornets at Chapel Gate. The Hornets came close in the fifth minute when home keeper Chris Edmonds could only parry a shot from Kieran Campbell and Matt Bircumshaw latched onto the loose ball but shot just wide. Borough however opened the scoring five minutes later as Edmonds again blocked a Campbell shot, but James Edwards was on hand to convert the rebound. Borough had to reorganise in defence after manager Tony White went off injured and Sports began to make some inroads without seriously testing Hornets gloveman Adam Nash. However five minutes from the interval Nash upended a forward in the area and Sports drew level with Robbie Lynns resulting spot kick. Half Time 1-1 Immediately after the break Borough again went close as Paul Getley picked out Campbell with right wing cross but the resulting volley went over the bar. Borough were frustrated by the home sides well drilled offside trap but Bircumshaw did break through on 59 minutes, however Edmonds was quick to narrow the angle and the shot went just the wrong side of the post. With 5 minutes remaining Borough opened up the home defence again with a swift three man passing move but Campbell again shot over. Into injury time Sports boss Ian Bradley urged his side forward and thought they had snatched the winner when a Borough mistake wide on the right saw Nash stranded out of his goal and Andy Spencer sent a speculative lob goalwards, which dropped over the line. Borough however carved out an immediate response and Getley delivered a superbly weighted pass into the path of Campbell who took the ball in his stride before deftly lifting his sot over the advancing Edmonds to force the draw. Borough: Nash, Cockwell, T.White (Wilson 21), Orchard, Hebdon, Getley, Edwards (M.White 73), Fooks, Bircumshaw (Gunn 65), Campbell. Herrington. Managers Comments .............................. Sports' gaffer Ian Bradley said: "I am not too disappointed with the draw with all things in consideration. A draw was probably a fair result in the end. We have got a good result against a good side. I am very pleased with the performance we gave and the progress we are making. For a team that was thrown together at the start of the season we are really progressing well. We just need to alter our away form now." Hornets' boss Tony White said: "We got away with murder in the end. We huffed and puffed a little bit more than we have done in previous weeks but to be fair to Bournemouth they made it hard for us. Maybe we should have won it with the amount of possession we had but Bournemouth could feel unlucky not to have won." |
