Bridport Reserves (1) 2, Poole Borough (2) 4. Elite Teamware Dorset Premier League Saturday 8th November 2003 Scorers: James
Edwards 37; Scott Smith 45; Kieron Campbell 68, 69. Borough collected their third successive league victory, but despite the visitors dominating possession, Bridport made the Hornets fight for the points, twice drawing level before a brace from Kieron Campbell, scored inside two second half minutes, sealed victory. Borough created all the early pressure but it took until the 20th minute to create a clear chance, Tony White heading a free kick narrowly wide. Two minutes later Alex Gunn ran onto a intelligent through ball from Scott Smith and sent over a low cross which Kieron Campell latched on to but his shot was blocked by a defender. Borough finally opened the scoring on the 37th minute after Tony White was tripped on the edge of the area, and while the home side were busy lining up their wall, James Edwards took a quick free kick, which curled just inside the post. Within a minute, however Bridport were level when John Foot converted their first clear shot of the game, following a swift three man move which cut through the Borough defence. Smith came close to scoring 5 minutes from the break after he turned well in the area but his shot was palmed away by the home keeper. On the stroke of half-time Borough restored their lead after Edwards floated a teasing lob into the area and Smith knocked the ball past the advancing glove man before converting into an empty net. Half Time 1-2. Immediately after the restart Bridport came close with a header but at the other end Campbell ran onto a Tony White through ball but shot at the keeper. On 57 minutes Steve Russell send over a low left wing cross which resulted in a goal mouth scramble and although Campbell got a shot in it deflected off of a home player on the line. Bridport began to inflict some sustained pressure for the first time in the game and drew level for the second time on 61 minutes, capitalising on a defensive error on the half way line to pump the ball forward for a Andy David to run onto and score. Borough deservedly took the lead again on 68 minutes as a Smith shot from a corner was blocked on the line, but Campbell was on hand to bundle the ball into the net. A minute later Campbell increaased the lead as he left the home defence flat footed running onto a long ball forward before dispatching an unstoppable shot. The home keeper kept the score down with a good block from a Stuart Merrell volley and saved with his legs from Campbell after Smith teed his strike partner up. Bridport created some late chances but Borough defended in numbers to ensure no way back for the Bees. Borough: Adam Nash, Shaun Clarke, Tony White, Sean Hebdon (Scott Orchard 46), Gary Fooks, Stuart Merrell, James Edwards, Alex Gunn, Scott Smith, Kieron Campbell, Steve Russell (Martin White 82). Managers Comments .............................. Borough boss Peter Morrell said: "That is now three victories in a row for us so we are on a bit of a roll ?? and it is about time. We had a poor start but we have made a few changes and it is beginning to all come together." Bridport manager Chris Fry said: "We had our strongest side for weeks playing but it was probably the worst we have performed all season. We did well to fight back to 2-2 but then we undid all our hard work by conceding two sloppy goals towards the end." |
