Alan Fooks

Borough got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory against Bridport Reserves at Turlin Moor, but a spirited performance from the Bees meant the Hornets were forced to battle hard to secure victory.

Bridport almost made a dream start when a blistering shot from Mike Flann in the opening minute came back off the bar. It was Borough however who dominated the half crating their first chance on 8minutes when James Edwards stole in unmarked an at the near post to get his head to a Kieran Campbell left wing cross, but the ball went wide of the upright.

Veteran striker Alan Fooks returned to Borough colours and came close to reopening his goal scoring account on 11 minutes when he latched on to a through ball from Paul Getley, but after beating the last defender his shot was blocked by the visiting keeper. Getley created a chance for himself two minutes later, turning a defender before shooting wide from the edge of the area. Bridport defended well to limit the home sides chances but Borough carved out another chance on 33 minutes as Alan Fooks broke down the right and Alex Gunn collected the resulting cross with his back to goal before turning well and shooting just over

Half Time 0-0.

Further home pressure after the restart could not be turned into clear opportunities and the Bees began to look dangerous on the break and Adam Nash needed to be on his toes to clear a dangerous ball forward.

However on 66 minutes the Hornets pressure finally created a break through when a deep cross dropped into the path of Edwards wide on the right and the Borough skipper made no mistake to claim his 11th goal of the season.

Bridport continued to stretch Borough on the break and Shaun Clarke had to execute a superbly timed tackle to deny a visiting forward. With 10 minutes remaining Gary Fooks made the game safe for the Hornets as he latched on to a perfectly weighted through ball from Edwards before converting with a thunderous drive.

However Bridport were not prepared to admit defeat and Floyd Brown scored a deserved consolation deep in injury time, knocking home a cross after a break down the right, but Borough had done enough to claim all three points.

Borough: Adam Nash, Dan Cockwell, Tony White, Scott Orchard (Shaun Clarke 53), Sean Hebdon, Paul Getley (Jamie Wilson 89), James Edwards, Gary Fooks, Alan Fooks, Kieran Campbell (Steve Russell 84), Alex Gunn.

Managers Comments ..............................

Winning boss Tony White said: "It was a comfortable win and I thought we played well. I have just signed Alan Fooks back from Cobham Sports and he did a great job for us. I have had my eye on him for a while. He left the club in dubious circumstances and it is great to have him back."

Bridport manager Chris Fry said: "We started really brightly and we hit the bar early on but then we seemed to suffer from a hangover from our game last Tuesday night. One of our better defenders was called up by the first team and really Mike was the only one who reproduced his form from our previous game."
