In their final away game of the season Borough fell to their second single goal defeat by Dorchester United in a tough encounter spoilt by a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch.

Borough, playing the first half against the conditions, were awarded and early free-kick on the edge of the area which James Edwards placed narrowly wide. On 13 minutes Borough worked the ball forward well and Alex Gunn laid a pass into the path of Kieran Campbell running in from the right, but his shot went over.

United were limited to an overhead kick from a corner which was off target, while Borough were denied twice as successive crosses from the right were cleared at the far post with Steve Russell challenging. Further Hornets pressure saw Dan Cockwell get the by-line and drill in a low cross, which Alan Fooks did well to get a head to, but the chance went wide.

Playing against the wind, Borough would have been happy to turn around level, but minutes from the interval Dorchester sent a long throw into the area that resulted in a quick turn and shot which was blocked at full stretch by Adam Nash but the loose ball was turned in a the far post. Immediately before the break Shaun Clarke got his head to a corner but it went just over.

Half Time 1-0

With the wind in their favour Borough took control the second half but were unable to breach a well drilled home defence with United’s 14 year old keeper Carl Hicks keeping his side in front with some fine stops.

Hicks did well to collect a low long-range shot from Matt Bircumshaw and then punched clear a Russell centre with Campbell bearing down. Dorchester were still dangerous on the break and Nash did well to block a shot at his right hand post.

With time running out Edwards curled in a free kick from the edge of the area but Hicks got across superbly to palm the ball away and later got out quickly to deny Russell as he broke through to secure the points for the home side.
