Poole Borough (0) 1, Gillingham Town (0) 0. Elite Teamwear Dorset Premier League Saturday 10th April 2004 Borough Scorer: Alex Gunn 83. Borough ended their four game sequence without a win with a fine, if narrow, victory over visitors Gillingham Town, their first ever victory against the North Dorset side. The game was entertaining, with good approach play from both teams, but neither side could break the deadlock. Herrington and Gunn were prominent in Boroughs early attacks down the flanks and Alan Fooks was put through by Edwards after ten minutes but Knibbs blocked the resulting shot. Herouard nearly scored for the Gills when he found space, but his shot from 25 yards was tipped over the bar by Nash. Gillingham had to replace injured striker Parkinson, and then nearly went behind at the end of the first-half when Alan Fooks was again through on goal, but his shot was easily saved. Half Time 0-0 In the second-half Harvey for Gillingham hit a low shot that forced Nash to dive full length to deflect the ball round the post whilst Knibbs did the same for Gillingham from a Bircumshaw turn and shot. The decisive goal came on 83 minutes when Getley threaded through a ball which looked to be going all the way to the keeper, but Gunn darted in to deflect it into the corner of the net. Gillingham pressed hard for an equaliser and Nash saved from a Harvey shot and then recovered well after dropping the ball from a looping header. In the final minutes Gillinghams frustrations led to Lee Christopher receiving a red card for remarks to an official. Borough: Adam Nash, Martin White, Tony White, Scott Orchard, Shaun Clarke, Paul Getley, James Edwards, Alex Gunn (Dan Cockwell 87), Matt Bircumshaw, Alan Fooks, Danny Herrington. Unused subs.
