Borough Man of the Match: Danny Young

Poole Borough coasted to their first away victory in four starts with three first half goals putting paid to basement boys Stourpaine.

Early Borough pressure saw them open the scoring inside five minutes as a quick forward pass was picked up by Kieran Campbell before the striker deftly chipped the home keeper from the edge of the area to record his twelfth goal of the season.

With Borough struggling to carve out further clear chances despite some good approach play, Stourpaine looked a threat on the break and Tony White did well to head a free-kick clear under pressure, while Adam Nash had to make up ground to clear a weak back header with a home striker bearing down.

Borough effectively extinguished the threat on 30 minutes after Alan Fooks was brought down just outside the area and Matt Bircumshaw sent the resulting free-kick low into the box where Martin White arrived in front of the home keeper to steer the ball home.

This was the trigger for Borough to step up a gear and Alex Gunn sent a header just wide, while Campbell turned well in the area but saw his shot blocked by the keeper. On 38 minutes Gunn cut into the area from the right but was bundled over and Tony White stepped up to crash home unstoppable spot kick.

Half Time 0-3.

Despite continuing to dominate after the break Borough were unable to capitalise by further increasing the scoreline. Alan Fooks came close with a header from a Dan Cockwell right wing cross immediately after the restart and put another shot just over after being set up by Campbell.

On 68 minutes Gary Fooks saw the keeper off his line and attempted a lob but the gloveman got back well to collect. Stourpaine defended well but created little in return and when they did break through Nash got out quickly to block.

With the result assured, Danny Young was brought on and impressed with his first real DPL run out while Scott Light also made his debut with 10 minutes remaining.

Borough finished the game still pressurising the home goal without being able to break the second half deadlock but the result was enough to keep the top six target in sight.

Borough: Nash, Cockwell (Young 65), T.White, Orchard, Clarke, G.Fooks, M.White, Gunn (Light 80), Campbell, A.Fooks, Bircumshaw.
