Tuesday 26th August 2003

Borough Scorers: Campbell 16; Smith 27,79; Edwards 44,63
Borough Man of the Match:
James Edwards

Borough put their two previous below par performances behind them with a superb all round display of attacking flair and solid defending to overwhelm their East Dorset rivals.

Kieron Campbell came close on 15 minutes, as the visiting keeper blocked his shot and the loose ball was cleared off the line. A minute later however Campbell broke the deadlock with a bullet header from a Stuart Merrell corner.

Wareham were denied by Adam Nash on 20 minutes as the home keeper stretched to deflect a left wing cross with a striker closing in at the far post.

Further good approach play from Borough saw the home side double their lead on 27 minutes as an interchange between Steve Russell and Tony White resulted in a left wing cross which Scott Smith headed home at the near post.

Rangers came close again on 33 minutes as Nash was unable to hold a right wing cross, and a visiting forward latched on to the loose ball but his shot came off crossbar and line before being cleared.

On 43 minutes Russell saw a header from a Gary Fooks cross cleared off the line but a minute later James Edwards scored the third with a superb diving header from the edge of the box to convert a Tony White cross following a quickly taken free kick.

Half Time 3-0.

Wareham came out after the break looking for a way back and Nash made a sharp save at his right hand post to hold a low shot while Martin White made a well timed challenge to deny a forward as he shaped to strike.

At the other end Tony White came close on 56 minutes when he could only divert a right wing cross over the bar but Edwards increased he lead after 63 minutes, picking up the ball in the area with his back to goal before turning and slotting past the keeper.

Antony Warrington pulled a goal back for Wareham from the penalty spot after the referee had seen a push in the area. Nash deflected the the spot kick but was unable to prevent the ball rolling over the line. Borough however re-established their 4-goal lead 10 minutes from time as the keeper could only parry a low shot from Russell and Smith nipped in to tap the rebound home.

Borough: Nash, G.Fooks, T.White, Hallam (Clarke 61), M.White, Merrell, Edwards, S.Russell (Gunn 79), Smith, Campbell, Bircumshaw (Norris 79).
