Borough Scorers: Gary Fooks 45, Danny Herrington 57.
Borough Man of the Match: Gary Fooks

Borough were held to a draw in an entertaining encounter despite the strong blustery conditions at Turlin Moor. Club captain James Edwards was missing from the Borough line-up after being called up for Dorset, even though he was unable to travel to the county match due to work commitments and Alex Gunn was also sidelined with flu allowing Danny Moore to step up from the reserves to make his debut.

Although battling against the conditions in the first half Borough looked the more likely to score early on and Alan Fooks shot narrowly over from a tight angle at the far post on 13 minutes while a good interchange between Alan Fooks and Matt Bircumshaw saw the latter’s shot deflected wide by a defender. On 27 minutes Moore broke down the left before whipping over a cross, which Steve Russell did well to connect with on the volley, but the home keeper was equal to the shot.

Westlands looked dangerous on the break and took the lead on 28 minutes when a Scott Orchard clearance cannoned off a visiting forward and the ball fell kindly into the path of Mike Rowsell who ran through to score. Westlands created further chances and a far post header from a right wing cross went just wide while Shaun Clarke did well to clear a shot off the line at full stretch.

However the Hornets drew level on the stroke of half time when Gary Fooks beat the Sports keeper with a curling shot from 25 yards out.

Half Time: 1-1

Borough made a double substitution up front to introduce Danny Chapple and Darren Abreu into the game and with the conditions now in their favour pushed forward looking for the breakthrough. It came on 57 minutes when Gary Fooks won the ball in midfield and brought if forward to the edge of the area before laying it off to Danny Herrington on the left who struck a superb dipping shot into the top right hand corner.

Westlands however always looked dangerous on the break and saw three chances cleared off the line before they finally drew level five minutes from time when Borough keeper Adam Nash was unable to hold a shot and substitute Jake Smeeton was on hand to knock home the loose ball.

Abreu nearly stole a win for Borough when he just failed to get in a clear shot after being picked out by another good cross left wing cross from Moore, but the resulting draw was a fair result on the day.

Borough: Nash, M.White, T. White, Orchard, Clarke, G.Fooks, Herrington, Moore, Russell (Chapple 46), A. Fooks (Abreu 46), Bircumshaw. Unused sub: Young.

Managers' Comments ..................

Both managers agreed it was an excellent game, but it was Poole's Tony White who was more disappointed at the final whistle. "We had much more possession and it was individual errors that cost us goals", he said.

"We thought we were worth a draw as Poole cleared four off the line", said Westland boss Pete Watts.
