Borough Scorers: David Perry 3; Jamie Holland 66.
Borough Man of the Match: Matt Morris

Borough’s strike pairing of Jamie Holland and David Perry were both on target as the Hornets recorded a hard fought victory, as with the visitors unable to cash in despite controlling much of the game, a late resurgence from the Royals left Borough holding out to claim all three points.

Borough made the perfect start after only three minutes when Matt Morris got to the left by-line before crossing to Perry at the near post who placed a glancing header past Martin in the home goal.

Four minutes later Holland chased a through ball down the right and his cross from a tight angle forced Martin in the home goal to palm the ball away as it looked to drop just under the crossbar. Martin was also equal to a shot on the turn from Perry and then denied Danny Herrington low down by his left hand post after the Borough defender looked to finish a Borough four man passing move.

Blandford's forays forward were limited and their best chance of the half saw Adam Nash equal to a shot from the edge of the area while at the other end Holland latched onto a quick forward pass from Dan Cockwell but Martin again did well scramble clear an angled drive.

Half Time 0-1

The Royals came out after the break a lot stronger and made an immediate impact as Nash was forced to block a shot in the area at point blank range. Minutes later Nash made a fingertip save low down by his right hand post to preserve the lead with Borough also fortunate to scramble clear the resulting corner.

With the game opening up opportunities also fell to Borough and on 59 minutes Holland broke down the right before pulling to ball back to Alex Gunn whose shot forced a sharp stop from Martin and thre minutes later a Holland flick header from a free kick flashed just the wrong side of the upright.

Borough finally doubled their lead on 66 minutes with a well worked move as Perry shielded a clearance forward before slipping the ball to Morris on the left wing who played a first time first time pass into the path of Holland and Borough's top scorer outpaced the last defender and cut inside the keeper before steering his shot into an empty net.

The Hornets came agonisingly close to making the game safe 20 minutes from time as an assured run from the halfway line by Perry left two defenders in his wake and his shot from just inside the area had Martin beaten but came back off the upright.

Blandford however were still in the game and on 77 minutes Nash again kept the home side out, pushing a close range shot past the upright, but the resulting corner was bundled in at the near post by Steven Smith to give the Royals some hope.

As expected Blandford pushed forward looking for the equaliser, but Borough controlled the game well and carved out the best chance to seal victory as a right wing cross from Perry picked out Holland in front of goal, but Martin was again equal to the shot to deflect it clear and Borough were able to claim their first Premier League points at the Recreation Ground.
