Poole Borough (0) 0, Bournemouth Sports (1) 1. Dorset Premier League Tuesday 12th April 2005 Borough Man of the Match: Danny Herrington Sports became the first side to inflict the double on Borough as despite hitting the woodwork twice the Hornets failed to recover from conceding a goal in the first minute in an entertaining game which attracted over 100 spectators to Turlin Moor. Borough were stunned by the early opener from Sports as the home defence was caught out by a swift break down the left and although Danny Herrington got his head to the cross, the ball dropped to the feet of Richie Lambros who made no mistake in dispatching his shot past the stranded Adam Nash. Borough came back and Jamie Holland teed up Gary Fooks on 15 minutes for a shot from outside the area which went over, and a minute later Holland provided a similar chance to Jimmy Edwards who also saw his shot clear the bar. On 19 minutes a well worked Borough move saw Holland knock a short corner to Tony White whose cross to the far post was headed back across the area by David Perry into the path of Gary Fooks but the final shot on the half-volley was cleared off the line by a Sports defender. With Borough committed to attack, Sports were always dangerous on the counter and Nash did well to parry the final shot from Scott Ferguson following a swift break down the left. However the majority of chances were still at the other end and on 24 minutes Holland came agonisingly close with a header from an Edwards free kick which dropped just the wrong side of the upright, while two minutes later Herrington found space on the left hand edge of the area but his shot across goal went wide of the far post. However before the break Nash had to come out smartly to deny Sean Read after another swift Sports breakaway and also collected a shot at full stretch as once again a Sports striker got clear of the Borough defence. Half Time 0-1 Borough continued to push forward in numbers following the break and after being fed by Edwards, Holland used his balance well to evade an initial challenge just inside the area before being denied by a well timed tacked by Jon Marvin as he shaped for the shot. With the Hornets forcing a number of corners, Sean Hebdon came close with a header which went inches over while Gary Fooks curled a flag kick from the left which struck the top of the bar. On 30 minutes Borough were awarded a free kick in a central position 30 yards out and Fooks stepped up quickly to curl the ball past the wall only to see it strike the base of the post with Rocco Bacchini in the home goal well beaten. Four minutes from time Borough went down to 10 men after losing Jamie Holland following a second yellow card, but the Hornets still had time to force a fine save from Bacchini to deny Perry, while at the other end Nash was again out smartly to block a shot from Ben Osborne following a final Sports break away. Borough: Adam Nash, Dan Cockwell (Matt Parkin 56), Tony White, Gary Fooks, Sean Hebdon, Dan Herrington, Jimmy Edwards, Jamie Holland, David Perry, Alex Gunn (Andy Coles 76) Matt Bircumshaw (Ben Truan 65).
