Borough Man of the Match: David Perry

Borough extended their winning run to six games to go into the Christmas break in second position after a convincing victory played out in difficult conditions, affected by heavy rain throughout the match.

For the third game in succession Borough took and early lead, this time inside five minutes when Andy Barham sent a low cross into the 6-yard box and Matt Bircumshaw stole in front of the home keeper to steer the ball in off the post.

Bircumshaw came close to plundering a second on 16 minutes, again getting behind the home defence as Gary Fooks centred from the right but the keeper got across smartly to smother the cross. And the home keeper again denied Bircumshaw two minutes later, blocking a shot from outside the box.

Borough continued to control the game, restricting Bridport to a couple of half chances which failed to trouble Adam Nash and the Hornets doubled their lead on 34 minutes as Jamie Holland knocked a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of David Perry who ran through to the edge of the area before dispatching a low shot past the advancing keeper.

Bridport had their best chance of the half on 37 minutes with a shot from the left, which went just wide of the far post, but Perry broke through again before the interval however this time the keeper did well to block the shot.

Half Time 0-2.

Ten minutes after the break Perry was again denied as his sharp header from a corner was headed off the line and the striker then saw a shot from wide on the right cleared at the near post.

Borough's continuing pressure did pay off on 58 minutes with Holland scoring the third as he latched onto a defence splitting forward pass from Andy Barham before making space and hitting a low drive just inside the post.

Bridport gave themselves a lifeline as they pulled a goal back on 61 minutes with a well struck shot by Tristran Gale from the edge of the area, and the home side came close again on 69 minutes as they took advantage of a Sean Hebdon slip in the treacherous conditions but Dan Moore did well to scramble the resulting cross away under pressure.

However despite the worsening conditions Borough continued to carve out a succession of chances and a good move down the right resulted in a Perry cross from the by-line which Holland did well to control with his chest but the resulting shot went over. Inside the final minutes the home keeper did well to deflect a shot from Ben Truan just past the post and also denied Perry, palming away the strikers header from a corner.

Borough: Adam Nash, Dan Cockwell, Tony White, Gary Fooks (Ben Truan 68), Sean Hebdon, Dan Herrington (Shaun Clarke 81), Andy Barham, Jamie Holland, David Perry, Andy Coles, Matt Bircumshaw (Danny Moore 68).
