Poole Borough (1) 1, Bridport Reserves (0) 0. Dorset Premier League Saturday 11th September 2004 Borough
Scorer: David Perry 23. A single first half strike from David Perry was enough for Borough to secure a deserved victory over their West Dorset visitors and extend their winning run to three games, but failure to build on their lead left the Hornets to weather a late onslaught from Bridport in order to secure all three points. In a game effected by the blustery conditions, both teams created early chances. Adam Nash made a good block with his legs to deny Locke, while a left wing cross from Dan Herrington picked out Alex Gunn on the edge of the area who made space for a shot but Jamie Fry in the visitors goal was able to collect. Dan Moore came close on 17 minutes when he latched on to a through ball from Andy Barham and his shot beat the advancing Fry but a defender go back to clear. Perry's first goal for Borough came on 23 minutes, as he did well to get in front of his marker and slot home a right wing Matt Bircumshaw cross from the edge of the box. However on 32 minutes Herrington was forced to put in a brave challenge to clear a cross in front of goal under pressure from two Bridport forwards. Perry nearly got a second before the break with another close range effort from a Bircumshaw cross, but Fry got down well to divert the ball past the post. Half Time 1-0 Borough dominated the second period, but Fry continued to frustrate, somehow getting a hand to a dipping free kick from Gary Fooks to deflect the ball onto his crossbar, and later pulling off another fine save to deny Matt Bircumshaw after a strong run forward. However with time running out, Bridport committed numbers forward looking for the equaliser and Mike Flann benefited from a defensive error to break through on the right but Nash was equal to the shot. Deep into injury time, Borough survived a goal mouth scramble following a corner, but the Hornets defence held out to make it four home wins out of four. Borough: Adam Nash, Dan Cockwell, Tony White, Shaun Clarke, Gary Fooks, Danny Herrington, Alex Gunn (Derrant Blenman 72), Andy Barham, Matt Bircumshaw, David Perry, Danny Moore (Ben Truan 66 (Jamie Wilson 85)). |
