Poole Borough (1) 1, Cobham Sports (0) 2. Dorset Premier League Saturday 5th February 2005 Borough Scorer: Andy Barham 34. Borough's eleven game unbeaten run came to an end along with their 100% home record as former Hornets manager Pete Morrell's Cobham side battled hard in a competitive local derby to earn a well deserved victory. Jamie Holland carved out an early chance for Borough as he broke through on the right but Cobham keeper Wayne Robbins was out quickly to block the shot. On 9 minutes a left wing cross picked out Alex Gunn in space just inside the area but a defender got across quickly to deflect the resulting shot wide. On 12 minutes Lee Symes got to the by line for Cobham and his cross found a colleague clear in the penalty area but he was unable to get in a clean connection and Adam Nash in the home goal was able to collect. Borough were forced to make a replacement mid-way through the half after Alex Gunn was stretchered off with a gashed shin. Cobham carved out a further chance on the half hour as Symes steered a cross from the right into the path of Dave Dick, but the final shot went just the wrong side of the upright. It was Borough though who took the lead on 34 minutes, when David Perry battled down the left before sending a perfect cross to the far post and Andy Barham was on hand to unleash a stunning volley to mark his first goal for Borough. Perry came close to increasing the lead for Borough five minutes later with a curling free kick from the edge of the area which went just over, but almost immediately a Cobham forward got behind the home defence as he raced onto a through ball but Nash came out smartly to clear and the Borough keeper saved well again just before the interval after another Cobham break away. Half Time 1-0 Cobham came out for the second half looking the more determined team and after a couple of half chances they equalised on 54 minutes when a Borough defensive clearance was charged down in the area and Ryan Toms reacted quickly to latch onto loose ball and dispatch a low shot past Nash into the bottom left hand corner. Sean Hebdon came close for Borough with a header from a corner, which Robbins collected just under the bar. On 67 minutes Sports looked to have taken the lead when Dave Dick forced the ball over the line after Nash failed to hold a free-kick but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul on the keeper. With Borough struggling to break down a resolute Cobham defence the visitors continued to create the best of the chances and came close with a shot from the right, which flashed past the home goal. And with six minutes remaining Cobham got the breakthrough when Simon Hallam headed a corner goalwards and although Nash got his hands to the ball, the referee adjudged that it had crossed the line. There was still time for Borough to claim a point, and the home supporters thought they had done enough in the final minutes when Matt Morris got to the by line and turned to ball back to Perry at the near post but his shot on the turn went agonisingly wide of the far upright.
