Dorset Premier League Sarturday 18th September 2004 Borough Man of the Match: Tony White Borough ended Dorchester Town's 100% record with a hard fought draw at the Avenue Stadium which was also the Hornets first experience of a goal less competitive fixture in 184 games, since the club were formed in 1999. In a tight first half, Borough created the best of the chances, starting on 12 minutes when Tony White hit a well struck shot from 35 yards out which Paul Myers in the home goal managed to tip over the bar. Borough's defence worked hard to restrict the home side to shots from long range, and the one clear first half chance for the Magpies went wide after Dan McDonald exploited some space on the right. David Perry's strong running was causing the home team problems and on 28 minutes Myers was forced out of his area to deny the striker from latching onto a White through ball. Minutes later Alex Gunn found space on the edge of the area, but Myers was equal to the shot. Just before the break Perry carved out an opening for himself, picking up the ball with his back to goal before a sharp turn beat his defender but his final shot went just over. Half Time 0-0. The game opened up after the break, and Perry again was in the midst of the action, just failing to get his head to a Dan Herrington free kick. On 68 minutes Gary Fooks battled down the right and his resulting low cross from the by-line found Perry but a defender got in front to block the shot. Derrant Blenman came on for Gunn and created immediate problems for home defence, heading a through ball into the path of Perry to run onto but the final shot went wide. As the half went on Dorchester's forays forward began to build and Adam Nash did well to palm a corner away and from the resulting flag kick he collected the resulting header low down by his post. Into the final 10 minutes a corner came out to Fooks 20 yards out who hit a blistering shot and Sean Hebdon arrived in front of the keeper but just failed to deflect the ball before Myers collected, while Perry also headed just wide from a Bircumshaw cross. However the Magpies also pushed forward in the final minutes and the Borough defence were stretched for the first time. Adam Nash was forced to make another fine stop while Herrington did well to clear a cross with two forwards bearing down to ensure Borough collected a deserved share of the points and claim their fourth consecutive clean sheet. Borough: Adam Nash, Dan Cockwell, Tony White, Shaun Clarke, Sean Hebdon, Danny Herrington, Alex Gunn (Derrant Blenman 66), Andy Barham, Gary Fooks, David Perry, Matt Bircumshaw (Danny Moore 86).
