Borough maintained their 100% home record and at the same time inflicted Gillingham Town's first defeat of the season with their single goal victory at Turlin Moor courtesy of a Gary Fooks first half free kick.

Gillingham made the early running and Matt Lawrence shot just wide after beating Borough's Tony White to a through ball, and was also denied when home keeper Adam Nash saved with his legs.

However Borough began to establish themselves as the half progressed and on 31 minutes were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area following a foul on Gunn and the resulting strike from Fooks took a defection to beat Wakely in the home goal.

The Hornets nearly doubled their lead on 36 minutes when a short pass in the area by Andy Barham found Bircumshaw in space but Wakely did well to blocked the shot at point blank range and the loose ball fell Barham who saw his strike from the rebound deflected over by a defender.

With Borough finishing the half stronger Gillingham had to survive a goal mouth scramble from a corner before they managed to clear.

Half Time 1-0

With Gillingham pushing forward in numbers from the restart, Borough were forced back for much of the second half, but defended their lead well. On 55 minutes a Gills shot was changed down in front of goal by a home defender and two minutes later Nash did well to collect a low shot by his left-hand post.

However as the half progressed Borough again got in their stride and on 76 minutes David Perry broke down the right and rode a tackle but his resulting cut back went behind both Blenman and Bircumshaw in the area.

With Perry again breaking through, a Gills defender did well to clear for a corner. This was the first of three successive flag kicks the final one of which was met with a powerful header from Blenman which Wakely punched clear only as far as Herrington who sent a low cross into the area which Sean Hebdon just failed to steer home.

On 86 minutes Perry again got behind the visitors defence again but his final cross was blocked and with Borough unable to extend their lead there were some nervous moment's for the home side during the final minutes before they were able to record a club record fifth consecutive clean sheet and leapfrog their opponents into fifth place.

Borough: Adam Nash, Matty Parkin, Tony White, Gary Fooks, Sean Hebdon, Danny Herrington, Alex Gunn, Andy Barham, Danny Moore (Derrant Blenman 72), David Perry, Matt Bircumshaw. Unused subs: Scott Orchard, Danny Cockwell.
