Holt United (2) 2, Poole Borough (1) 1. Dorset Premier League Sarturday 28th August 2004 Borough
Scorer: Tony White 10. Having made three changes to the team following the mid-week defeat at Bournemouth Sports, Borough delivered a much-improved performance but despite dictating much of the second half they were unable to break down a solid Holt back line to recover from a one goal half-time deficit. Borough boss Tony White put the Hornets into the lead after 10 minutes, with an unstoppable downward header from a right wing corner. Darrent Blenman nearly increased the lead 3 minutes later, lobbing the home keeper but Lee Bradford got back to hook the ball off the line. Holt however drew level on 21 minutes after Shaun Clarke did well to block a shot in the area, the rebound fell kindly to Dan Cann to convert. Benman came close again for Borough diving to head a right wing cross from Carl Marshall just past the near post but it was Holt who took the lead on 38 minutes as a shot from the left was parried by Adam Nash but the loose ball was dispatched by Kevin Blackham at the second attempt. Just before the interval Paul Getley was unfortunate not to turn in an Alex Gunn right wing cross, the shot being blocked on the line. Half Time 2-1 Immediately after the break Getley had another shot charged down after a good flick on from Blenman and then another fine header on from Blenman set up Gunn wide on the right but he shot over. Borough continued to probe the home back line and Gary Fooks knocked the ball into the path of Clarke, but his shot went wide. Holt were content to soak up the pressure and hit Borough on the break and they nearly sealed victory on 73 minutes when they got behind the back line but Nash came out quickly to make a superb block. With time running out, Getley cut in from the by line and forced a good save from the home keeper as he attempted to squeeze the ball in from an acute angle and Andy Barham also came close, but there was no way back. Borough: Adam Nash, Shaun Clarke, Tony White, Gary Fooks (Alan Fooks 85), Sean Hebdon, Danny Herrington, Alex Gunn, Andy Barham, Carl Marshall, Derrant Blenman, Paul Getley. Unused subs: Dan Moore, Jamie Wilson. |
