Poole Borough (2) 3, Hamworthy Recreation (0) 0. Dorset Premier League Wednesday 1st September 2004 Borough
Scorers: Jamie Holland 24, 48; Danny Moore 28. With Borough looking to halt a run of two successive defeats, Tony White brought in Jamie Holland to add some pace to the front line and it paid off as the striker scored twice in the local derby. Borough started the brighter and a Holland shot from wide on the right went narrowly wide while a Bircumshaw low drive from outside the box went just past the upright. However on 22 minutes Rec executed a swift counter attach, but, Adam Nash came out smartly to head clear a Hamworthy through ball under pressure. It was Borough who took the lead on 24 minutes as Holland latched onto long ball forward before lifting his shot over the advancing Kevin Leonard in the home goal. Within five minutes Borough doubled their lead as Alex Gunn jinked past two defenders in the area before squaring for Danny Moore to slot home. Holland created a further chance before the break but his shot from outside the box was well saved by Leonard. Half Time 2-0 Recreation came out immediately after the interval and forced Borough back. On 54 minutes Jamie Sturgess came close for the visitors with a header from a corner, which went just over and a minute later a low cross found Cris Rigler in front of goal but Adam Nash got across to make a superb block. Borough however increased their lead on 57 minutes Moore harried a defender into loosing the ball in the area and he got to the by-line before lifting a cross over Leonard at the near post to present Holland with an easy tap-in. With Rec. pushing forward looking for a way back, the home defence held firm with Nash making two good stops while two chances that fell to Rigler went wide. Borough: Adam Nash, Matt Parkin, Tony White, Gary Fooks, Sean Hebdon, Dan Herrington, Matt Bircumshaw, Andy Barham, Jamie Holland, Alex Gunn, Danny Moore (Kenny Hughes 61). Unused subs: Shaun Clarke, Alan Fooks. |
