Sherborne Town (0) 0, Poole Borough (0) 2. Dorset Premier League Saturday 13th November 2004 Borough
Scorers: Sean Hebdon 81, Ben Truan 89. A dour game sparked into life in the last ten minutes when Borough snatched all three points with two late goals which put paid to Sherborne's 100% record at Raleigh Grove. Borough had to reshuffle their side due to injuries and welcomed back midfielder Andy Coles, who had not played for the Hornets since their Division One days. The Hornets just edged the first half which was littered with stoppages for free-kicks and injuries. Jamie Holland had a good chance to open the scoring in the 9th minute but the Sherborne keeper saved for a corner. Dan Cockwell then went on a good run which took him into the box but his appeals for a penalty after being brought down were dismissed by the referee. In the 30th minute the Sherborne keeper saved bravely at Hollands feet and had to receive treatment. Sherborne forced several corners but Nash was not really tested in the first 45 minutes. Half Time 0-0. Sherborne raised their game in the second-half and Sean Hebdon had to clear for a corner under pressure. David Perry had a run and shot from 20 yards, which was well saved by the keeper, whilst a Sherborne counter attack saw a shot just clear the bar. On 75 minutes Holland was booked and was then substituted for Ben Truan. Alex Gunn went on a mazy run own the right which took him into the area and his low cross fell to Coles, but he was unable to get any power to the shot and it was collected by the home keeper. Just as the game seemed to be heading for a stalemate, a Dan Herrington corner on 81 minutes was turned goal wards by Perry and Hebdon was on hand to bundle the ball over the line. Sherborne brought on two substitutes in an effort to save the game but it was Borough who sealed the points in bizarre fashion when a minute from normal time the home keeper went up for a corner which was cleared at the near post by Herringon. The ball was quickly dispatched forward into the path of Truan whose electric pace saw him steal between two home defenders and despite being pulled back he kept his balance before placing a low shot into the empty net. Borough: Adam Nash, Dan Cockwell, Shaun Clarke, Andy Coles, Sean Hebdon, Dan Herrington, Alex Gunn, Jamie Holland (Ben Truan 75), David Perry, Andy Barham, Matt Bircumshaw. Unused Subs. Carl Griffin, Dan Moore, Tony White. Managers Comments .............................. Winning boss Tony White said: "It was a much-deserved win. We told the boys a few home truths before the game and they responded superbly. We had to grind out the result in the end but we played some good football at times and to keep another clean-sheet was pleasing." Town Manager Martyn Starnes said: "It had 0-0 written all over it from start to finish. We had three players missing in Richard Parkinson , Danny Wilson (who has moved to Chard Town) and Dave Last and it showed. We did not have as much quality going forward and it is important that we now find a replacement for Danny." |
