Poole Borough (0) 1, Sherborne Town (2) 3. Dorset Premier League Saturday 26th February 2005 Borough Scorer: Jamie Holland 66. Borough fell to their second home defeat in a row as Sherborne took advantage of a poor home team performance to record their first victory at Turlin Moor. The game saw the return of former Borough Captain Jimmy Edwards to the Hornets line-up following his mid-week move from Hamworthy United. Borough created some good early chances and Danny Herrington came close with a shot from the left which flashed across goal. On 5 minutes Alex Gunn got down the right and his curling cross forced Ashley Knibbs in the visitors goal to punch the ball over and from the resulting corner Tony White headed narrowly over. Almost immediately Sherborne came close after good interplay between their forwards resulted in a shot which went just wide. Further pressure from the visitors saw a low drive deflected for a corner and from the resulting flag kick Adam Nash was forced to block a shot at close range before the ball was scrambled clear. On 17 minutes Borough were awarded a free kick wide on the right which Herrington floated into the area and David Perry's header was just off target. However it was Sherborne who broke the deadlock on 23 minutes when Nash could only block a blistering free kick and Robbie Davis reacted first to tuck home the rebound. Unfortunately Borough had to reshuffle their midfield after an injury to the returning Edwards forced him off on the half hour and were dealt a further blow in first half injury time as a swift breakaway from the visitors down the left saw the ball was threaded inside to Mike Starnes on the edge of the area and his excellent dipping shot curled over Nash and into the net. Half Time 0-2 Sherborne continued to press Borough after the break and Nash did well to push a low drive past the post while White was also forced to head clear for a corner under pressure. As the half progressed, Borough began to take the initiative and it was Sherborne's turn to scramble a cross from Jamie Holland away for a corner before the home side deservedly pulled a goal back on 66 minutes when Alex Gunn received a cross field pass on the right hand edge of the area before squaring to Holland six yards out to side foot in. Borough now pushed forward looking for an equaliser and the best chance fell to Perry on 77 minutes, but his header from a corner just cleared the bar. However with the home side committed to pushing forward in numbers Sherborne took advantage of a break away to send an angled pass from the right over the Borough defence and into the path of Starnes who steered the ball past the advancing Nash to make the game safe.
