Borough Man of the Match:
Jamie Holland

Despite the bitterly cold and wet conditions Borough provided an excellent performance to equal their record winning margin and progress into the 3rd round of the Premier League Cup for the first time, with Jamie Holland scoring four and Ben Truan, a second-half substitute netting a hat-trick.

Borough dominated the first 15 minutes and created a series of chances to take the lead, Holland heading over at close range and David Perry shooting wide, both inside the first 5 minutes. Holland also put a low left win cross from Perry narrowly wide, while Bircumshaw shot over from the edge of the 6-yard box after a well work move down the right by Perry and Holland.

Stourpaine however came close to taking a shock lead with two successive break aways on the quarter hour, the first shot being smothered by Adam Nash, while the second saw a visiting forward through on the right but he shot wide of the far post.

It was Borough though who took the lead on 16 minutes after being awarded a free-kick on the left hand edge of the area and Andy Coles was at the far post to side footed home the resulting cross.

The Hornets continued to press Stour back but still had problems with their final touch and when Danny Herrington did get a shot in from the left the visiting keeper did well to tip the ball over the bar. The second goal however came on 28 minutes with Holland sliding the ball into the path of Perry as he stole into the area and he crashed his shot just under the bar.

Two minutes later Borough were awarded a free-kick wide on the right after Matt Bircumshaw was brought down and Herrington sent in a low centre which Sean Hebdon met at the near post with a stooping header to claim his second goal in two weeks.

Holland was denied by the Stour keeper on 37 minutes, seeing his shot pushed onto the post after carving out space on the left, and the striker was denied again three minutes later after taking the ball past the visiting gloveman he seemed lokelt to convert, but the keeper recovered well to block.

Half Time 3-0

Borough brought Gary Fooks and Ben Truan off the bench for the second half and Truan almost made an immediate impact latching into to a right wing cross from Holland which the keeper saved at point-blank range. However it was Fooks who increased the lead on 54 minutes as be carried the ball through from midfield before converting.

Holland was again denied by the keeper on 56 minutes as his shot was deflected wide, but he finally got on the scoresheet two minutes later, converting from the penalty spot after Truan was pushed over in the area.

However Stourpaine pulled a goal back on 63 minutes as a speculative lob by Olly Revell from 25 yards out dipped just under Nash's crossbar. This reverse, however just acted as spur for Borough and they restored the margin three minutes when Holland battled to the right by-line before cutting the ball back to Truan to tap the ball home.

Then followed a sustained onslaught as the Hornets proceeded to chalk up a further six goals in 13 frantic minutes starting with Holland again the provider, making space before squaring to Truan to blast home. Holland was not to be outdone and scored the goal of the game on 74 minutes, collecting the ball with his back to goal on the edge of the area before turning an lifting his shot over the keeper.

On 81 minutes Coles scored his second of the game after a good build up on the left resulted in a high ball into the area from Tony White and the keeper got his hand to the resulting header from the Borough midfielder but couldn't keep the ball out.

Holland collected his first Borough hat-trick on 83 minutes as he cut through the static Stourpaine defence to convert and Truan joined his strike partner with his third a minute later as he ran onto a through ball from the edge of the area before striking an unstoppable shot..

Holland capped a record equaling performance as he once again outpaced the visiting defence before coolly converting to become the first Borough player to register four goals in a game since Alan Fooks in April 2000.
