(2) 3, Poole Borough (4) 4. Dorset Premier League Wednesday 24th November 2004 Borough Scorers: David Perry 5, Jamie Holland 12, Matt Bircumshaw 22, Danny Moore 24. Borough inflicted the Swans first home defeat of the season, but after cruising to an early three goal lead the game turned following the sending off of Sean Hebdon on the half hour for handing on the line and the Hornets were forced to defend in depth to finally hold on to a single goal winning margin. Borough attacked from the kick-off and David Perry came close after four minutes when Dan Moore knocked a good ball into the striker's path but the shot was well blocked by Hollywood in the home goal. A minute later, however Borough took the lead after Jamie Holland battled to the by-line and a home defender failed to cut out his low cross leaving Perry on hand to bury the shot. A minute later though Swanage were level as the Borough defence failed to clear a left wing cross and Jack Harrop stole in to dispatch the loose ball. Almost immediately Perry carved out a good chance for Holland who shot narrowly wide, but the striker made no mistake on 12 minutes after a deep free kick from the right was headed back across goal by Perry at the far post and Holland was well placed on the edge of the box to sweep the ball goalwards. Holland turned provider on 22 minutes, riding two tackles as he cut in from the right before laying the ball to Matt Bircumshaw at the near post to steer his shot past Hollywood from a tight angle. Two minutes later the game looked all over, as another cross from the right, this time by Bircumshaw alluded the home defence and Moore arrived on the left to crash the ball home. However the complexion of the match changed completely on 28 minutes as an angled ball onto the Borough area found its way to a home striker at the far post and Hebdon could only deflect the resulting shot over the bar with his hand, which earned him a straight red card and the resulting penalty was dispatched by Martin Patterson. Borough immediately brought Clarke on for Moore to bolster the defence as Swanage looked to press the advantage and the Swans nearly narrowed the lead before the break after a low cross from the right found a home striker at the far post but Adam Nash go across quickly to smother the shot at point-blank range. Half Time 2-4. The second half continued as the first period had ended, with Swanage playing some fluent passing moves as they looked to find a way through the Borough defence. Borough elected to defend in depth but their task was made more difficult nine minutes after the restart when Swanage pulled a further goal back as free kick was deflected into the path of a home striker in the area and although Nash did well to parry the shot, Lee James was on hand to convert the rebound. Borough continued to be pinned back in their half and the Swans were only denied an equaliser on 17 minutes as Tony White executed a superbly timed tackle to nick the ball away from a home striker as he shaped to shoot. After picking up a knock in the first half, Jamie Holland was replaced by Ben Truan on 64 minutes and the introduction of the additional pace up front took some pressure off of the Borough rearguard action. And with 10 minutes to go Truan nearly made the game safe for Borough as he ran onto a through ball from Gary Fooks and made space for a shot which Hollywood saved at the near post with his legs. There was always going to be time for Swanage to nick a point however and two golden opportunities in normal time saw shots go narrowly wide, while at the other end a good interchange between Truan and Perry saw the latter shoot just over. One final chance however fell to a home striker in injury time with a shot on the turn, but Adam Nash got down smartly to collect and it was the Borough players who were able to celebrate a spirited victory. Borough: Adam Nash, Dan Cockwell, Tony White, Gary Fooks, Sean Hebdon, Dan Herrington, Danny Moore (Shaun Clarke 29), Jamie Holland (Ben Truan 64), David Perry, Andy Coles, Matt Bircumshaw.
