Blandford United (1) 1, Poole Borough (1) 5. Dorset Premier League Saturday 10th December 2005 Borough Scorers: Lee Thomas 40, 66; David Perry 75; Dan Young 81, Alex Jones 90. Borough came from behind to record their first away victory under Shaun Brooks thanks to a strong second half showing against a young Blandford side. Borough included new signing Danny Neville from Bashley who slotted well into the Hornets back line. Blandford created an early chance with a break down the right and Stuart Amey came out quickly to make a good clearance, but Borough responded as Andy Barham sent Lee Thomas clear in the area but the Borough striker put his final shot over. Amey was in action again on 13 minutes as another quick break from the Royals ended with the Borough keeper making a fine block at point blank range while at the other end Wasim Eluadhi shot from a narrow angle on the left, but the ball struck the base of the post. It was Blandford, however who took the lead on 19 minutes as the Borough defence were caught with a quick ball forward into the path of Steve Smith who made a strong run into the area before slotting past Amey. Borough on the other hand struggled to convert their chances as on 22 minutes Thomas did well to control a long ball into the Blandford area and took the ball past Hamman in the home goal, but his final shot was cleared off the line while four minutes later Dan Young got behind the home defence to latch onto a through ball but lifted his shot over the bar. Further Borough chances saw Eluadhi shoot narrowly wide and a free kick from Barham was tipped over the bar by Hamman, but five minutes from the break Borough finally equalised as with the home defence caught napping, Barham played a low free kick behind the back line and Thomas arrived unmarked to steer the ball home. Half Time 1-1 Borough stepped up their game after the interval and Eluadhi carved out a chance with a strong run down the left to the goal line and his low cross was met by Alex Jones at the far post but his shot flashed back across goal before being cleared. On 63 minutes Young saw a snap shot from the edge of the area tipped past the post by Hamman, but Thomas put Borough in the lead three minutes later as he battled through the middle to get the ball past the last defender and keeper before he rolled it into an empty net. David Perry, returning from a hamstring injury came off the bench and set up Thomas on 78 minutes with a low cross but the final shot went over. However Blandford were still dangerous on the break and Matt Welsh denied a scoring opportunity with a fine last-ditch tackle. Borough though all but made the game safe 15 minutes from time as Perry met a diagonal ball into the area from Tony White with a glancing header to beat Hamman. To their credit the young Royals side continued to provide Borough problems on the break, but the Hornets took advantage of the resulting gaps at the back an on 81 minutes a through ball picked out Young in space on the right and although Hamman got a hand to the shot he could not keep it out. Borough sealed their win in injury time as Perry ran through on the right before squaring to Jones who recorded his first goal for the Hornets with a simple tap in. Borough: Stuart Amey, Matt Welsh, Tony White, Danny Neville, Shaun Hebdon, Dan Young, Simon Edwards, Andy Barham, Lee Thomas (Danny Herrington 75), Alex Jones, Wasim Eluadhi (David Perry 57).
