Borough Scorers: David Perry 11.

Sports chalked up their second successive double against Borough as a strong second half performance saw the home side take all three points at Chapel Gate

Borough had the best of the early exchanges and Scott Orchard came close for the Hornets on 5 minutes after staying up following a corner he got his head to a cross from the right which went just the wrong side of the post. A minute later a good interchange between Simon Edwards and Andy Barham on the left resulted in Barham floating in a teasing cross and David Perry made the space for a diving header, but the ball went narrowly wide.

Perry though put the Hornets in the lead on 11 minutes when he got his head to a Tony White right wing corner to convert through a packed defence. However within a minute Sports drew level when a free kick from the left was driven into the area and took a deflection off a defender's head to leave Stuart Amey stranded. Another chance a minute later saw a Sports striker made a strong run into the Borough area but Matt Welsh made a well timed tackle to deny the shot.

On 20 minutes a scramble in the Sports area saw the ball come out to Danny Herrington but his snap shot cleared the bar. Two minutes later Herrington fed Perry in the area, but the final drive was collected well by Rocco Bacchini in the home goal and almost immediately Alex Jones beat the offside trap with a strong run down the left before cutting inside to the near post and pulling the ball back to Perry, but the normally deadly striker failed to make a clean connection and the ball rolled to safety.

Borough continued to create the best of the chances and after a good 1:2 with Simon Edwards Dan Young saw his shot from a tight angle well saved by Bacchini while five minutes from the break Edwards took the ball across the edge of the area before squaring to Herrington whose first time shot was athletically palmed onto the post by Bacchini to keep his side level at the break.

Half Time 1-1

Sports came out the stronger after the interval and took the lead in controversial fashion on 53 minutes as Reed went down in the area after challenging Orchard and Amey for a loose ball and the referee awarded a penalty, leaving Ben Osborne to convert the spot kick.

Lee Thomas came on to make his first team debut for Borough and made an immediate impact as he connected to a free kick whipped in from the left but the ball came back off the post. Sports though opened up the Borough defence with a pass that picked out a striker unmarked but the final shot went over and Amey also did well to deflect a later shot from the left.

On 68 minutes Barham came within a inch of putting Borough level after he made a strong run from midfield and with the home defence backing off he lifted a shot over Bacchini from the edge of the area but the ball came off cross bar and goal line.

Amey however kept Borough in the game with a superb block at point blank range on 72 minutes and two minutes later was equal to another shot after the Borough defence was again breached. But another chance for Borough saw Perry send a low centre across the Sports area but there was no one on hand to convert.

However Sports doubled their lead on 76 minutes as Osborne hit a well struck free kick from 25 yards out which went in off the bar.

Borough continued to push forward looking for a way back and they had a penalty shout of their own turned down after Jones appeared to be upended after running onto a through ball while in the dying minutes Thomas beat Bacchini to a high ball into the area but a home defender got back to clear off the line.

Borough: Stuart Amey, Matt Welsh, Tony White, Shaun Clarke (Karl Griffin 62), Scott Orchard, Dan Herrington (Sean Hebdon 78), Alex Jones, Andy Barham, David Perry, Dan Young, Simon Edwards (Lee Thomas 59).
