Dorset Premier League
Wednesday 24th August 2005

Borough Scorers: Sean Hebdon 60.

Lightening struck twice for Borough as a year to the day after Sports chalked up a 4-1 victory at Chapel Gate they produced the same score line on the Moor, although the Hornets performance was much improved from 12 months ago.

Sports carved out an early chance with a break down the right and the ball was pulled back to a forward on the penalty spot but the final shot was blocked by the home defence.

On 20 minutes Marc Vincent teed up Ben Truan on the edge of the area but the final shot went just over. A minute later Gary Fooks found space down the right but his shot from a tight angle was collected by Rocco Bachini in the visitor’s goal.

However it was Sports who took the lead on 24 minutes when a well worked move down the left lead to a low cross drilled into the area which alluded the Borough back line and Kevin Collins was on hand to steer the ball home.

Within three minutes Truan came agonisingly close to putting Borough level as he just failed to connect to a high ball into the box with Bachini beaten. A minute later David Perry jinked into the area but his final cross towards Truan was cut out by Bachini.

Sports came back with another swift break forward but the final shot went wide. Scott Bedward was also denied by Bachini after he made space on the edge of the area to get a shot in, but Sports carved out another chance down the right on the stroke of half time but the final cross was headed wide.

Half Time 0-1.

Borough came out a lot stronger in the second half and within 4 minutes were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area and Bedward rolled the ball to Fooks whose low shot flashed narrowly wide. But two minutes later a quick Sports counter attack picked out Ben Osborne 20 yards out who hit a screaming shot past Dan Burton to double the visitors lead.

Immediately after Bedward sent a through ball in front of Truan and after the final defender failed to cut out the ball the Borough striker was presented with a clear chance but Bachini was out quickly to parry the final shot. On 50 minutes Borough finally pulled a goal back when Sean Hebdon got his head to a Dan Herrington free kick from wide on the left and Bachini appeared to misjudge the flight and allowed the ball through his grasp.

Borough immediately looked for the equaliser and within two minutes Herrington latched on to diagonal ball and although his final shot took a wicked deflection, Bachini made amends for his earlier mistake by correcting his position to collect the shot. Two minutes later Perry cut in from the right and drew the keeper before cutting back to Herrington who blazed his shot over.

Perry continued to look dangerous and following a strong run set up James who shot wide and also shielded the ball well before laying back to Gary Fooks whose shot drifted just past the upright. Perry also created a chance himself that Bachini did well to deflect past the post.

But on 78 minutes Hebdon was disposed by Chris Walton outside the area and the Sports striker ran through to finish well past Burton. With Borough pushing forward looking for a way back Burton did well to parry a long-range effort.

However Sports made the game safe three minutes from time as another break away saw a low drove into the area and Osborne got a foot to the ball, which looped, over Burton’s head and into the net.

Borough: Burton, Welsh, Herrington, Fooks, Hebdon, Orchard, Bedward (Young 55), Vincent (Stanley H-T), Perry, James, Truan (Clarke 65).
