Poole Borough (0) 2, Bridport Reseves (3) 3. Dorset Premier League Saturday 7th January 2006 Borough Scorers: Lee Thomas 57, Simon Edwards 80 Borough can blame a lacklustre first half performance for their defeat by Bridport, as the Bees went into the break three goals up and despite dominating the second half the Hornets left themselves too much to do in order to salvage a point. Early Bridport pressure saw a header from a corner go just over, but a shot from David Perry on 5 minutes from the edge of the area was parried by the visiting keeper, while he also palmed away a curling shot from Alex Jones minutes later. Bridport took the lead on 14 minutes when Tristan Gale broke from the half way line and after being forced wide by Borough keeper Stuart Amey he converted impressively from a narrow angle. Borough though had a golden opportunity to level the score on 21 minutes when Sean Hebdon flicked a left wing corner on at the near post and the ball fell to Alex Allen in space, but the final shot went narrowly over. Within five minutes however Bridport had doubled their lead as the Borough defence failed to clear a free kick in the area and Gordon Charles hammered home the loose ball. Worse was to follow for Borough on 34 minutes as an Amey clearance went straight to Gale who duly tucked the ball home. Bridport continued to push forward and Amey did well to save a low drive at close range while Danny Neville was called upon to make a well-timed tackle to deny a goal scoring opportunity. A minute before the break Borough had to replace goalkeeper Amey, after he sustained an injury with Shaun Clarke standing in between the sticks. Half Time 0-3 Borough came out positively in the second half and inside five minutes Lee Thomas latched onto a cross from Alex Jones but his drive struck the post and the visiting keeper smothered Dan Young's shot from the rebound. Continuing pressure finally saw the Hornets pull a goal back after 67 minutes as the Bridport defence were unable to clear a Borough free kick in the penalty area and Thomas pounced to convert the loose ball. Bridport were still dangerous on the break and Clarke did well to keep his side in the game as he came out quickly to block a shot at close range. With ten minutes remaining Simon Edwards gave Borough a lifeline with a unstoppable shot from 20 yards out which flew just inside the left post. Borough now laid siege to the visitor's goal and Ben Truan sent Thomas through but his low shot was blocked by the keeper while Jones was also denied by the Bridport gloveman who punched away his shot from a tight angle. Into the last minutes and a low drive from Edwards was turned past the post for a corner, and from the flag kick the ball came out to Edwards who again saw his attempt denied by the keeper and the Bees held out to secure the win. Borough: Stuart Amey (Dan Young 44), Tony Marney (Ben Truan 54), Tony White, Danny Neville, Sean Hebdon, Shaun Clarke, Simon Edwards, Alex Allen, David Perry, Alex Jones, Lee Thomas. Unused sub.
