Borough Scorer: Lee Thomas 45.

Borough failed to build on their midweek victory at Hamworthy Recreation as a poor performance from the Hornets saw them taste defeat against their local neighbors thanks to a hat-trick from Chris Mawers.

Cobham took the lead on 30 minutes with the Borough defence looking in vain for an offside flag as Mawers ran on to a through ball before slotting past the advancing Doug Shear.

Borough though carved out a number of chances to level the score and when a Gary Fooks 20 yard shot was palmed away by the home keeper, Alex Allen saw first to the loose ball and crossed to Lee Thomas who was just unable to get contact with the goal at his mercy.

On 44 minutes Allen had the ball in the net after heading home a cross from the right, but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul on the keeper. However a minute later Allen found space down the left before slipping the ball inside to Lee Thomas, who curled a low shot past the keeper.

Half Time 1-1

Cobham however restored their lead on 55 minutes when the Borough defence failed to cut out a through ball from Alex Gunn which picked out Mawers in front of goal and the striker finished from close range.

Thomas came close to putting Borough back in the game again on 66 minutes as he was played into space behind the home defence but with the home keeper coming out quickly his low drive went agonisingly wide of the post.

Another Borough chance on 85 minutes saw a Simon Edwards strike from 20 yards drift just wide, but a minute from time Cobham increased their lead when Shear could only parry a fierce drive and Mawers was on hand to tuck home the rebound.

Borough: Doug Shear, Darren Rudd (Danny Chapple 76), Tony White, Dan Neville, Alex Jones (Dan Herrington 60), Gary Fooks (Andy Barham 70), Simon Edwards, Shaun Clarke, Lee Thomas, Alex Allen, Matt Morris.
