Borough Scorer: David Perry 37 (Pen).

Borough extended their unbeaten run to five games, but with the Hornets unable to build on their first half lead it took a series of fine saves from Stuart Amey to secure all three points and lift Borough up to fifth in the table.

Playing the first half up the slope and against the blustery wind Borough carved out an early chance as Alex Jones got a cross in from the left and David Perry rose unmarked to head just the wrong side of the post. The Cranes came close on 7 minutes as they broke through the Borough back line but Amey was out quickly to narrow the angle and the final shot went wide.

However most of the play remained in the home half and a good interchange between Perry and Edwards saw the latter denied by a fine tackle, while on 17 minutes Dan Young did well on the left to carve out space before centering to Perry who headed over under pressure.

Cranborne though still looked dangerous on the break and on 21 minutes a home forward cut in from the left before unleashing a shot which came off the side netting.

But it was Borough who took the lead on 37 minutes after Jones made a strong run into the area before being brought down from behind and Perry duly converted the penalty. Within a minute Young nearly doubled the lead for Borough after finding space wide on the left, his low drive from a tight angle which went just wide of the post.

Half Time 0-1.

Within minutes of the restart Jones whipped in a free kick from wide on the left and the cross was met with a powerful header from Gary Clarke which went just wide, but Cranborne also saw an early chance miss the target following a break down the right.

Further Borough pressure saw a succession of corners before on 58 minutes Perry made space for a low shot which was blocked by Andrew Loader in the home goal and Alex Allen was first to the rebound but his shot struck the base of the post.

However as the half progressed Cranborne sensed the chance to get back into the game and on 76 minutes Amey was foced to make a fine double save as he parried an initial drive before quickly getting into position to smother a shot from the rebound. And again on 83 minutes Amey's athletic dive saw him steer the ball away to deny a shot from the edge of the area which look destined for the top corner.

With Gary Clarke suffering a hamstring injury, Paul Bayston came on to make his Borough debut and provided an impressive cameo as first on 87 minutes he outpaced the home defence down the right before his final shot was palmed away by Loader whilst in injury time he was sent into space by Edwards and lifted his shot over the advancing Loader but the ball dipped too late and just cleared the bar.

Borough: Stuart Amey, Sean Leaton, Tony White, Dan Young, Sean Hebdon, Simon Edwards, Alex Allen, Andy Barham, David Perry, Alex Jones (Shaun Clarke 74), Gary Clarke (Paul Bayston 81). Unused Sub: Shaun Brooks.
