Poole Borough (2) 3, Dorchester United (0) 1. Dorset Premier League Saturday 27th August 2005 Borough Scorer: David Perry 9, 35, 76. Following consecutive defeats in their opening two games, Borough picked up their first points of the season with a convincing against Dorchester United at Turlin Moor courtesy of a hat-trick from striker David Perry. Scott Bedward was out after picking out an injury mid-week but Paul Getley returned to the side for his first game of the season. Borough took the game to their visitors from the kick-off and Perry opened the scoring after only 9 minutes as he latched onto a through ball and shrugged off the attentions of a United defender before placing a low shot past the advancing Paul Gadsby in the visiting goal. On 22 minutes Gary Fooks broke down the right and pulled the ball back to Lee James inside the area but Gadsby came out quickly and blocked the resulting shot with his legs. Another Borough opportunity three minutes later saw Scott Orchard send a high ball into the area from the right and Getley got his head to the cross but it went just over. Dorchester carved out a chance on 31 minutes when a free kick from the left was met with an overhead kick at the far post, but the ball went narrowly wide. Perry however increased the lead for Borough on 35 minutes as Fooks knocked a ball over a static Dorchester back line and the Borough striker timed his run to beat the offside trap before taking the ball through to convert. Two minutes later Perry was denied his hat-trick as Gadsby did well to divert a shot but at the other end Dan Burton made a superb save at point blank to maintain the advantage. Just before the break Gadsby again denied Perry after the Borough striker latched on to a loose ball in the area. Half Time 2-0. Dorchester came out stronger in the second half and Burton collected a sharp free kick under the bar while a further chance carved out by the visitors was blocked by the home defence. At the other end Getley made a strong break down the left on 64 minutes before pulling the ball back to Marc Vincent whose shot was deflected wide. On 75 minutes visiting striker Chris Naylor created their best chance with a twisting run into the Borough area and forced Burton to make a fine one handed save. However within a minute Borough had made the game safe when Fooks sent an inch perfect forward pass into the path of Perry who knocked the ball past the advancing Gadsby before following through to convert. Two minutes from time Dorchester pulled a goal back after they were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area and Naylor stepped up to curl the ball in off the cross bar. Borough: Dan Burton, Matt Welsh, Tony White, Gary Fooks, Scott Orchard, Danny Herrington, Shane Stanley (Andy Barham 62), Marc Vincent (Ben Truan 75), David Perry, Lee James, Paul Getley (Sean Hebdon 88). |
