Poole Borough (2) 3, Gillingham Town (2) 3. Dorset Premier League Saturday 15th April 2006 Borough Scorers: Alex Allen 37, 39; OG Borough and Gillingham shared the points in a six-goal thriller at Turlin Moor. Gillingham took the lead after only six minutes when Borough keeper Doug Shear miskicked a clearance and presented Ian Williamson with a simple chance to score. Borough were forced to defend and Sean Hebdon cleared off the line from a corner, but they nearly equalised on twenty minutes when Dan Chapple headed a cross from Gary Fooks goalwards but keeper Darren Wakely dived to turn the ball round the post. Gillingham extended their lead after twenty-nine minutes when Nick Thompson crashed the ball home from close range. A minute later a deflected Williamson shot was acrobatically tipped over by Shear. Borough fought back with two goals in two minutes to level the score. Alex Allen headed home a cross from Andy Barham on thirty-seven minutes and then Allen bundled home a cross from Aaron Woldon with the Gills defence protesting for offside. Half Time 2-2 Gillingham pressed forward in the second-half and were unlucky when a looping long range shot cleared Shear but hit the inside of the post and rebounded along the line to hit the other post before being cleared by Hebdon. It was Borough, however, who took the lead after seventy-two minutes when Wakely under pressure from Woldon punched a corner into his own net. Within three minutes Gillingham equalised when a cross was headed back across goal for Thompson to score. Gillingham pumped balls into the Borough goalmouth looking for the winner but Borough's defence held on for a deserved draw. Borough: Doug Shear, Gary Fooks. Matt Morris, Dan Neville, Sean Hebdon, Alex Jones (Karl Griffin 60), Simon Edwards, Andy Barham, Dan Chapple, Alex Allen, Shaun Clarke (Aaron Woldon 10). Unused sub. Shaun Brooks. |
