Poole Borough (0) 0, Hamworthy United Reserves (0) 4. Dorset Premier League Saturday 1st October 2005 Borough fell to their second successive defeat as a poor second half performance saw their near neighbours chalk up a 4-0 victory at Turlin Moor. Borough dominated the early exchanges and on 10 minutes David Perry headed on a forward pass to Lee James who made space down the right before whipping a cross into the box, which Perry got on the end of but was denied by a superb, point blank save from the visiting keeper. Four minutes later Dan Herrington sent a high ball into the area and Perry rose between two defenders, but the keeper got down well to collect. On 17 minutes James slipped the ball to Anthony Warrington just outside the area who hit a low shot on the turn that struck the base of the post and Scott Bedward just failed to convert the rebound. As the half progressed the Hammers began to make inroads and on 22 minutes Matt Welsh struggled to clear a high ball on the edge of the area and a forward got in a shot that went just past the upright. Three minutes later Gary Fooks sent over a high cross from the right that was headed just over by Bedward. Hamworthy carved out a further chance when a forward just failed to connect to a low cross which flashed across the area and just before the break they saw a penalty appeal turned down. Half Time 0-0. Borough looked to have broken the deadlock six minutes after the break as Fooks latched onto a loose ball before sending a pass into the path of James who ran into the area before slotted past the advancing keeper only to see his shot come back off the upright. However against the run on play the Hammers took the lead on 54 minutes as a right wing cross was headed back across goal and Dave Dick was on hand to crash the ball home. On 61 minutes Warrington just failed to divert a Fooks free kick goalwards and Sean Hebdon also came close, heading a Paul Getley centre just over. But Borough found themselves further behind on 66 minutes when James Johnson got behind the home defence to convert a lofted free-kick. Four minutes later Borough's Scott Orchard saw a header from a right wing corner come back off the bar leading to a goal mouth scramble that ended with a shot from Perry being cleared off the line. With 15 minutes remaining the Borough defence were breached again after being left static by a Graham Rose freekick on the right hand edge of the area, which nestled just inside the far post. And five minutes from time Hamworthy scored their fourth when Dan Burton could only parry a fierce shot and Reece Dear was on hand to bundle home the rebound. Borough: Dan Burton, Matt Welsh (Simon Edwards 71), Tony White, Gary Fooks, Sean Hebdon, Dan Herrington, Scott Orchard, Scott Bedward (Paul Getley H-T), David Perry, Lee James, Anthony Warrington. |
