Poole Borough (0) 0, Holt United (1) 2. Dorset Premier League Saturday 1st April 2006 Borough slumped to their third successive defeat following the two goal victory by local rivals Holt United at Turlin Moor, however with the Hornets having the advantage of a strong wind in the second half, the result was in the balance until virtually the last kick of the match.. Holt found themselves a goal ahead after only six minutes when the Borough defence were left flat footed by a long ball forward which Phil Brown latched on to before lifting his shot over the advancing Doug Shear in the home goal. Shear was called upon again a few minutes later but this time did well to collect a rasping drive at the second attempt. Borough's first chance came on 24 minutes with a shot on the turn from Lee Thomas, which Bulls keeper Terry Martin got down smartly to collect, while at the other end Kevin Blackham latched on to a defensive mistake from Borough but his low shot from the edge of the area was parried by Shear. As the game progressed Borough began to take the initiative but were dealt a further blow on 34 minutes when top scorer David Perry suffered a recurrence of his hamstring problem which had kept him out for the last two weeks and had to be replaced. Minutes later the home side carved out their best chance of the half when the ball was played across the area to Simon Edwards 20 yards out and his snap shot went narrowly wide. Just before the break Jame Holland came close to doubling the score as he was picked out in space by a fine forward pass but Shear did well to block the resulting shot low down by his right hand post. Half Time 0-1 With the wind in their favour after the break, Borough began to look more of a threat and on 63 minutes Danny Neville collected a short corner on the left before crossing to the far post where Alex Allen got his head to the ball but it dropped the wrong side of the upright. Both keepers continued to be busy as first Martin was forced to punch a cross away under pressure from Thomas while Shear did well to palm away a corner at his near post. On 70 minutes a long ball forward from Borough picked out Thomas who looked to have made space for a shot, but a Holt defender recovered well to block the attempt. A minute later Allen did get the ball in the visitor's net, steering home a cross from the right at the far post, but the goal was disallowed for offside. With five minutes remaining Holt were awarded a penalty after Jason Lovell went down under a challenge in the area, but Shear did well to block the spot kick from Brown to keep his side in the match. However with Borough pushing forward in numbers Holt exploited the gaps in the back to break away wide on the left and the resulting cross picked out Lovell unmarked at the far post to head home. Borough: Doug Shear, Gary Fooks, Matt Morris, Danny Neville, Sean Hebdon, Alex Allen, Simon Edwards, Andy Barham, David Perry (Paul Bayston 34) Lee Thomas (Danny Lomax 74), Alex Jones.
