Hamworthy Recreation (1) 1, Poole Borough (1) 2. Dorset Premier League Thursday 20th April 2006 Borough Scorers: Alex Jones 28, Lee Thomas 62. With Giles Kilshawe stepping in as caretaker following Shaun Brooks' decision to step down as manager, Borough rode their luck to record their third straight victory of the season against Hamworthy Recreation at Magna Road. With David Perry still out injured, Ben Truan returned to the club to lead the line with Matt Bircumshaw also included in the squad. After an even initial period, Rec. carved out the first chance on 12 minutes when a shot from outside the area drifted just past the right post. However two minutes later a Simon Edwards drive took a deflection into the path of Truan but his snap shot was well saved by Kevin Leonard in the home goal It was Rec. though who took the lead on 16 minutes with a superb angled shot from wide on the left, which flew into the top corner of the net. Borough came close on 27 minutes when a speculative shot from Lee Thomas from 35 yards out whet narrowly wide. But within a minute the Hornets drew level as Alex Jones curled a corner from the left in which beat the a number of Hamworthy defenders to creep inside the far post. Leonard came to his sides aid as Truan broke through and the veteran keeper was forced to save with his legs. However on 39 minutes a slip from Dan Neville just inside the area saw him bring down a home striker just inside the area, but Doug Shear stayed on his feet to block the resulting penalty. Rec had two further clear opportunities before the break to restore the lead as first a low shot from the edge of the area cannoned off the post and then Shear did well to tip a dipping free kick onto his crossbar, Half Time 1-1 Borough started the second half brightly and Truan found space down the right but shot at Leonard, But on 50 minutes Shear was forced to deflect a shot at point blank range and the resulting corner was headed onto the cross bar. However against the run of play Borough took the lead on 62 minutes when a short pass picked out Thomas inside the area with his back to goal who dispatched a sharp shot on the turn to beat Leonard. Another astute forward pass on 69 minutes picked out Thomas in the clear but Leonard was again out quickly to block the chance. However as the half progressed Recreation began to push the Hornets back and on 79 minutes Neville got across to block a low shot and Shear did well to get his body behind the rebound. Recreation though saw their best chance on 83 minutes as a goalmouth scramble saw two shots cleared off the line and following this let-off Borough tightened up and worked to see the clock tick down to a encouraging victory against heir near neighbours. Borough: Doug Shear, Gary Fooks (Darren Rudd 81) Tony White, Dan Neville, Sean Hebdon, Matt Morris, Alex Jones, Simon Edwards, Lee Thomas, Ben Truan (Danny Chapple 63 (Matt Bircumshaw 75)), Alex Allen. |
