Poole Borough (2) 2, Hamworthy Recreation (1) 1. Dorset Premier League Saturday 21st January 2006 Borough Scorers: David Perry 11, Wassim Elhuadhi 29. Borough continued their good run against their local rivals following their 4th straight victory over an in form Hamworthy Recreation side in a close fought encounter at Turlin Moor. With Stuart Amey out injured Doug Shear made his third start this season between the sticks while Wassim Elhuadhi was also restored to the starting line-up and Shaun Leaton made his first DPL start since his return to the club. Borough made a bright start and within a minute of each other David Perry and Wassim Elhuadhi both found space behind the Rec. defence to latch onto right wing crosses but both saw their headers go over the crossbar. Perry though put the Hornets in front on 11 minutes as he shrugged off the attention of two defenders two to latch on to a through ball before lifting his shot over the advancing Kevin Leonard in the visiting goal. Rec however equalised on 25 minutes when Cris Rigler took advantage of a slip by Danny Neville to disposses the Borough defender on the edge of the area before clinically dispatching his shot under the dive of Shear. But Borough were back in front four minutes later as Elhuadhi slipped away from two challenges before unleashing a stunning drive from 25 yards out which Leonard got a hand to but couldn't keep out. Rigler came close to putting his side level again on 36 minutes, latching onto a low cross after a break down the left but his shot cannoned off a Borough defender and out of danger. Danny Neville carved out a chance for Borough just before the break as he whipped in a centre from the left towards the far post and a visiting defender just managed to deflect the ball for a corner under pressure from Alex Allen. Half Time 2-1 The game continued apace in the second half and on 54 minutes Shear did well to hold a rasping drive from Rahman at his left hand post. For Borough Simon Edwards struck a shot from outside the area on 61 minutes which just cleared the crossbar and saw a later shot from a corner blocked by the legs of Leonard. Rec however had an opportunity to draw level on 70 minutes as a Shear clearance went straight to a visiting forward who lifted the ball over the Borough keeper but Danny Neville got back quickly to clear the goalbound shot. Sensing the chance for an equaliser Rec began to push Borough back and on 77 minutes the home defence fought hard to scramble clear a free kick from the left. Three minutes later Rec broke down the left and the resulting low cross flashed across the goal mouth with no one on hand to provide the finishing touch. Borough were still dangerous on the break and Leonard had to come out quickly to clear a through ball with Danny Young bearing down while an Edwards pass sent Perry into space but the final shot was off target. With the referee playing nearly 10 minutes of stoppage time, Borough found themselves pinned back in their own half and and a Rec. break down the left resulted in a low shot which cannoned off the post. In the last attack of the game Allen was forced to clear off the line following a chance from a corner and a shot from the rebound was denied by a spectacular one handed save from Shear to consign Rec. to their first league defeat for three months. Borough: Doug Shear, Shaun Leaton (Tony Marney 75), Tony White, Danny Neville, Sean Hebdon, Simon Edwards, Wassim Elhuadhi (Dan Young 65), Andy Barham, David Perry, Alex Jones (Shaun Clarke 79), Alex Allen. |
