Borough lifted the first Dorset Premier silverware of the season as the League Cup winners convincingly overcame last seasons champions at Turlin Moor.

The early exchanges saw limited chances at both ends, with Borough restricted to a long range effort from Mark Vincent which was deflected wide, while a Rec header from a corner went narrowly past the post. On 21 minutes Dave Perry got his head to a right wing corner, which was blocked by Kevin Leonard in the visitors goal and following a goalmouth scramble the loose ball was finally cleared by a defender.

Borough took the lead on 29 minutes when a right wing corner was cleared only as far as Sean Hebdon whose shot cannoned off a defender into the path of Perry who tucked home the rebound. Four minutes later Rec's Danny Gibbons sent a through ball into the path of strike partner Dave Dick, but Scott Orchard reacted quickly to make a superbly timed tackle.

On 36 minutes Borough doubled the lead when Hebdon diverted a Ben Truan shot from the edge of the area past Leonard. Rec however came close to pulling a goal back just before the break when Gibbons rode two tackles as he battled into the area but his final shot hit the upright.

Half Time 2-0

Within a minute of the restart Rec went further behind as a ball through the middle from Orchard left the visiting defense flatfooted and Perry was able to draw Leonard before placing his shot past the veteran keeper.

Rec pushed forward looking for a way back and a shot from Dick flashed over the bar while following another Hamworthy break down the right saw the final shot hit the side netting. Ben Truan carved out a chance for Borough on 76 minutes outpacing a defender down the right before gutting inside, but his shot from a narrow angle was cleared off the line.

Lee James came on for Borough and made an immediate impact, teeing up Vincent whose shot was well saved by Leonard and also minutes later got on the end of a low cross from the right but lifted his shot over the bar.

At the other end Dan Burton in the Borough goal earned his clean sheet with four minutes remaining getting down well to make a reaction save to block a volley from the penalty spot. The last chance however fell to Borough, with James again the provider knocking the ball into the path of Dan Herrington whose shot was cleared off the line.
