Poole Borough Reserves (5) 6,
Portland United Reserves (0) 0.
Dorset Senior League
Saturday 28th January 2006

Borough Scorers: Lee Thomas 9, 42; Danny Neville 34; Dan Young 36; David Perry 45; Danny Chapple 70.

With the Second Team augmented by Borough's DPL squad following postponement of the trip to Westland Sports the Hornets cruised to a comfortable win against a young Portland side.

Borough took the lead on 9 minutes when Wasim Elhuadhi carried the ball from inside his own half before squaring to Lee Thomas in space on the edge of the area who lifted his shot over the visiting keeper. Despite dominating it took until 34 minutes for Borough to double the score when Danny Neville made a strong diagional run across the area before dispatching a low shot just inside the far post.

Two minutes later Borough increased their lead further when David Perry saw a close range shot blocked by the Portland keeper but Dan Young was on hand to tuck home the rebound. Lee Thomas scored his second goal on 42 minutes with a strong run from the half-way line which saw him outpace the Portland back line before dispatching a low drive.

Just before the break Perry got on the scoresheet as he found space six yards out to head home a low right wing cross.

Half-time 5-0.

Borough continued to dominate the game after the beak but with the Portland side showing a much-improved performance at the back goal scoring opportunities were at a premium. Portland however cam close to pulling a goal back on 74 minutes with a long range shot which had Stuart Doe beater but came off the upright.

Just before full time Borough scored their sixth with a well worked move as Neville sent Young down the left and the resulting cross from the by line picked out Danny Chapple at the far post to blast home.

Borough: Stuart Doe, Tony Marney, Tony White, Danny Neville, Shaun Leaton, Shaun Clarke (Danny Chapple 61), James Ely (Matt Bircumshaw 49), Wasim Elhaudhi, David Perry (Ben Truan 51), Lee Thomas, Dan Young.

Poole Borough Reserves (0) 0,
Witchampton United (0) 1.
Dorset Senior League
Saturday 14th January 2006

The Second Team again found themselves unable to translate their excellent away form to games at Turlin Moor as despite controlling much of the game, Witchampton collected all three points thanks to a break away goal midway through the second half.

Opportunities were limited in the early stages, but as the half progressed Borough began to carve out the better chances and on 28 minutes James Ely broke clear down the right and crossed to the far post but the visiting keeper did well to collect under pressure from Alan Fooks.

On 33 minutes Fooks blocked a Witchampton defensive clearance and the ball bounced just the wrong side of the post and almost immediately Dominic Glenn broke through but his final shot was saved by the keepers legs. Borough carved out a clear chance on 35 minutes as Glenn put Ben Truan clear through but he took the ball too close to the keeper and was unable to get a clear shot on goal before the defence got back to scramble clear.

However in the final minutes Witchampton created two chances and firstly Paul Jones making his debut in the Borough goal forced a forward wide before the final shot wend wide and then as Jones was beaten following another break away Scott Orchard got across to clear off the line.

Half Time 0-0

The second half saw Danny Chapple come close with an overhead kick from a Fooks right wing cross before the Witches took the lead on 71 minutes following with a strong run down the left before the forward cut inside and converted inside the far post.

Borough went all out for the equaliser and their best chance came from long throw from the left from Orchard which was flicked on by Danny Lomax but Ely at the far post put his shot over. Ely came close again before the end with a low shot which took a deflection before being collected by the keeper.

Borough: Paul Jones, Shaun Clarke (Karl Griffin 62), Tony Marney, Matt Bircumshaw, Sahun Leaton, Scott Orchard, James Ely, Neil Deaks (Dan Lomax), Ben Truan (Danny Chapple 62), Alan Fooks, Dominic Glenn.

Chickerell United (0) 1,
Poole Borough Reserves (0) 1.
Dorset Senior League
Saturday 1st October 2005

Poole Borough went to Chickerell for what was always going to be a hard fought game on the most difficult ground in Dorset football. Borough played up the slope the first half and the back four where right up for the challenge with the ball raining in from all angles and the Hornets defence including S Doe on his debut in the Borough goal held firm. Shaun Clarke never missed a thing and Shaun Leaton was always there to cover if needed.

However at the other end Shaun Parker missed a good chance to put the Hornets one up when he ballooned a chance over the cross bar.

Half Time 0-0

The boys come in at half time looking as if they had played 90 mins but a quick drink and a chat they were sent back out knowing they could get a result. With 15 mins of the restaer however, Shaun Clarke mis-kicked a ball and the Chickerell winger crossed to an unmarked forward to bury the ball past Doe.

Borough rode their luck with Doe making three great saves before Jason Phillips made a change bringing on Karl Griffin for Parker and equalised after they were awarded a free kick wide on left that resulted in the ball was sent over for Lee Thomas to convert with his head. With time running out a fine save from Doe kept the scores level to see the Reserves pick-up a well deserved point

Borough: S. Doe, Paul Leaton, Shaun Leaton, Shaun Clarke ©, T. Marney, Shaun Parker (Karl Griffin 60), M. James, James Ely, Aaron Woldon, Lee Thomas, Alan Fooks (Lee Atkins 86). Unused sub: Barry Gerrard.

Poole Borough Reserves (0) 0,
Corfe Mullen United (1) 1.
Dorset Senior League
Saturday 10th September 2005

The Reserves entertained a Corfe Mullen United, who although joining them in being promoted from Division 1 last season have significantly strengthened their squad for this campaign as they aim for the Premier League.

The opening quarter of an hour proved difficult for both sides as most of the play was in the midfield and no real chances created. Steve Hesford picked up an unfortunate injury in the 10th minute and was replaced by Darren Rudd at centre back. The first real chance of the game came on 16 minutes after a mistake by the Borough defence allowed Darren Vye a clear run at goal to slot past Gerrard and put the visitors ahead.

This sparked Borough into life and a succession of chances fell their way but nobody was able to convert them. Straight from the kick off Dan Young combined well down the right with Shaun Parker and Gary Barnes headed the resulting cross towards goal which looked destined for the top corner but somehow Simon Higgins in the away goal managed to tip the ball over for a corner. From the resulting corner Shaun Clarke again managed to get his head to the ball but steered the header narrowly wide.

On 20 minutes a superb Borough move saw another great save pulled of by the Higgins. Shaun Clarke picked the ball up at the back and sent a 50-yard cross-field ball into the path of Parker. He in turn switched the ball back across the area to the incoming Dom Glenn who ran the away defence ragged before striking his shot from 20 yards out, which was again tipped over for a Borough corner. After 25 minutes another Borough chance was carved out and Lee Thomas shot wide from the edge of the box.

Another 5 man passing move on 26 minutes saw Dom Glenn get to the edge of the six yard box and his cross shot went just wide, and Lee Thomas at the far post was inches away from grabbing an equaliser. On 38 minutes Aaron Woldon tried a speculative effort from 25 yards which cannoned of the bar and out for a goal kick.

The home side were putting the visitors under increasing amounts of pressure and again on 43 minutes a Shane Stanley header from a corner scrapped the outside of the post. The best chance of the half for Borough fell 2 minutes into injury time when Aaron Woldon wriggled his way into the box and was left one on one with Higgins before steering his shot wide from 4 yards.

Half Time 0-1

The second half saw Borough create more chances but failed to live up to the first half as both sides tired on the big pitch. On 55 minutes Shaun Parker received the ball on the edge of the box before firing over. As Borough pushed forward for a leveller Corfe Mullen looked to hit them on the counter attack and on 65 minutes Darren Vye managed to shoot over from only 2 yards out and an open goal. (Both sets of players reminded him of this constantly in the bar afterwards!).

Another Corfe Mullen chance on 67 minutes saw them put the ball in the net but the goal was harshly disallowed for off-side. Lee Atkins was brought on for Shaun Clarke on 70 minutes and Paul Leaton for Karl Griffin on 80 minutes as Borough looked for the equaliser and on 87 minutes a free header for Lee Thomas was tipped onto the post by Higgins and out for a corner, although the referee gave a goal kick. The game ended with the Borough players playing fantastic football and going into the dressing disappointed not to have got anything from the game.

Borough: James Gerrard, Karl Griffin (Paul Leaton 80), Dan Young (MOM), Shane Stanley, Shaun Clarke (Lee Atkins 70), Steve Hesford (Darren Rudd 10), Shaun Parker, Gary Barnes, Aaron Woldon, Lee Thomas, Dominic Glenn.

Matt "King of the Moor" Bircs, manager for the day in Jason Phillips absence told Sky Sports afterwards: -
"I can not fault the teams attitude towards the club, to training and their effort and commitment in the matches. However we are learning that at this level you must take your chances or you will get punished. All the lads are disappointed to have lost in the manner we did today and we feel we made Corfe Mullen look an average side. All the players were magnificent especially Shaun Clarke and Dom Glenn, but we will be working on our finishing in training this week. Jason has brought a lot of new talent to the club and from what I have seen so far we are capable, with hard work of gaining a fifth consecutive promotion. "Up the Borough."

Corfe Mullen manager Matt Williams told Sky Sports: - "Borough played good football today on a big pitch, but I think we battled hard and ground out a good 3 points. They were probably the better side, created better chances and deserved more from the game but we took our chance. They will do well in this league this year and I fully expect them to be at the in the top 3 or 4 come May"

Allendale (1) 1,
Poole Borough Reserves (1) 3.
Dorset Senior League
Saturday 3rd September 2005

Borough Scorers: Shaun Leaton, James Ely, Aaron Woldon

The Reserves had a point to prove in this match because Allendale are a very good settled side and this was proven by them getting a draw against Borough's first team in Pre-season.

The first 20 minutes was tough with both teams testing each other, but the breakthrough came for Borough from Shaun Leaton who rose at the far post to head home a corner in the 30th minute.

Some sloppy defending by Shaun Parker saw the Borough winger him mis-kick his clearance to an Allendale forward who crashed the ball into the roof of the net with James Gerrard on his debut in the Borough unable to do anything about the shot.

Half Time 1-1

After the break however, Parker made up for his error by setting up James Ely to volley in Borough's second.

The impressive Domnic Glen came off in the 65 minutes to be replaced by young Aaron Woldon who made an impact straight away with a couple of shots at goal. The home keeper made an error for Borough's third he mis-controlled a back pass with his feet and Woldon pounced to slot the ball past the keeper to put the game out of Allendale's reach.

With nine debutants in the side to day and big Shaun Hebdon marshalling the defence the future looks bright if Borough play with that much passion all season

Borough: James Gerrard, Paul Leaton, Shaun Leaton, Sean Hebdon(c), Karl Griffin, James Ely, Shane Stanley, Gary Barnes, Dominic Glen, Lee Thomas, Shaun Parker. Subs: Aaron Woldon , Lee Atkins , Barry Gerrard, Steve Hesford.
