Sherborne Town (1) 4, Poole Borough (1) 2. Dorset Premier League Saturday 20th August 2005 Borough Scorers: Andy Barham 28, Tony White 62 A disappointing start to the season saw Poole Borough beaten by a very workmanlike Sherborne side who played to their strengths, they moved the ball forward quickly and basically let new signing Aaron Lomax loose to create problems, this he did to good effect by scoring a hat trick. The Borough defence were culpable for all four goals as individual errors were punished, on the positive, Borough looked a threat going forward with David Perry and Lee James a constant problem to the Sherborne defence. With the pitch looking good both sides probed early and tested each other, with a quarter of the game gone Sherborne took the lead from a mistake in the Borough defence which was duly punished by the forward. Back came borough to force their keeper into a good save from Perry, at this time Borough played their best football in the half and a quickly moved cross from Andy Barham drifted over the keeper and into the net. That is the way it stayed till half time. Half Time 1-1 Sherborne started the second half more brightly and continued to force the issue, once again the Borough defence was carved open and Lomax slotted home after rounding Dan Burton in the Borough goal. Back Poole came with both James and Perry going close, the latter's shot seeing a fine save from the home keeper. From the resulting short corner the ball was crossed back in by Tony White and once again it eluded every one and ended up in the Sherborne net. At this stage it looked like Borough could go on and win the game, however a thunderous shot that cannoned off the Borough bar served as an indicator for the remaining 20 minutes and shortly afterwards a corner for Sherborne was met by Lomax who rose un challenged. This forced Borough into chasing the game to get some form of result, and Perry went close just before the end, but with Poole pushing forward they were again carved open as Lomax ran through to score his 3rd and Sherborne's 4th right on the whistle. Borough: Dan Burton, Dan Young, Tony White, Scott Orchard, Sean Hebdon, Danny Herrington (Ben Truan 79), Gary Fooks, Andy Barham, David Perry, Lee James, Scott Bedward. Unused subs: Marc Vincent, Shaun Clarke |
