Borough Man of the Match: Dan Young

Borough progressed into the Quarter-finals of the Dorset Senior Cup for the first time in their history, but it took until second half injury time for the Hornets to make the game safe as their visitors from Jersey battled to the final whistle. With top scorer David Perry and defender Scott Orchard injured, Lee Thomas stepped up for his first start for the Hornets while new signing Wassim Eluadhi made his debut.

The first half started at a frenetic pace and Borough took the lead after only 7 minutes when a deep corner from the right from Simon Edwards was headed back across goal by Tony White to Sean Hebdon who buried his shot from 5 yards out.

Two minutes later a blistering run down the left from Thomas took him clear of the Saints defence, but Danny Evens in the home goal did well to parry the final shot. Within a minute though the Saints carved out a chance which saw a low centre pick out a forward in the goal area but in attempting to steer the ball goalwards he was only able to divert it to safety.

With the game swinging from end to end, Thomas had another shot denied by Evens following a break down the right while the Borough defence struggled to cope with a high ball in from the left and a visiting forward got a shot in which went just over. On 19 minutes White was called on to execute a well timed tackle to deny a scoring opportunity after a well worked Saints move down the left.

However as the half progressed Borough began to gain the upper hand and on 29 minutes a Thomas shot from a corner was deflected into the path of Hebdon in front of goal but in a packed area he was unable to get a clean shot and the ball was scrambled clear..

Three minutes later Simon Edwards battled well to claim the ball on the edge of the area before setting up Thomas, but again Evens was equal to the shot. Just before the break Dan Young sent through a superb 40 yard pass from defence which picked out Alex Jones who rode a tackle before shooting narrowly past the left upright.

Half Time 1-0

Borough were to rue the first half missed chances as on 51 minutes St Paul's breached the home offside trap with a run down the right wing and the resulting cross picked out Kamil Adamczqk who made no mistake to convert past Stuart Amey.

The Hornets however restored their lead six minutes later as Evens failed to hold on to a right wing corner and White was on hand to bury the loose ball.

Borough continued to enjoy the majority of possession, but while they were unable to increase the lead St Paul's were always in with a chance and remained a danger on the break. In the visiting goal, Evens continued to keep Borough out, holding a firm header from Thomas before blocking a low shot from Edwards by his right hand post.

But Borough finally made the game safe in injury time as Edwards sent Andy Barham through on a run into the penalty area and the Borough midfielder squared to Young to steer the ball home.

Borough: Stuart Amey, Matt Welsh, Tony White, Shaun Clarke (Tony Marney 75), Sean Hebdon, Dan Young, Alex Jones, Andy Barham, Simon Edwards, Lee Thomas (Alan Fooks 84), Wassim Eluadhi (Danny Herrington 55).
