Poole Borough (0) 0,
Stourpaine (1) 2.
Dorset Premier League
Saturday 29th October 2005

Borough's indifferent form continued as a well organised Stourpaine worked hard to come away from Turlin Moor with all three points, which dropped the Hornets to eighth place in the table.

David Perry came close to giving Borough the lead within two minutes as he lobbed Stourpaine keeper Dan Ackerman from outside the area, but the visiting gloveman was able to scramble back and palm the ball away before it crossed the line.

With Borough creating all the chances Ackerman did well to block a low drive from Perry and minutes later Anthony Warrington broke through on the right but his final shot curled wide. On 28 minutes Perry found space down the right but Ackerman was again equal to the shot to collect low down at the near post.

However it was the Steamers who took the lead on 32 minutes after they were awarded a free kick on the on the edge of the area and the ball was floated in towards the far post where John Bates arrived to convert with a stooping header.

Five minutes before the break both sides found themselves down to 10 men after a melee broke out following a crude tackle on Scott Orchard, with Gary Fooks picked out as the unfortunate recipient of the resulting Borough red card.

Borough still had time before the break to carve out two chances as firstly Warrington slipped the ball inside to Perry whose shot went narrowly wide and then deep in stoppage time Ackerman needed two attempts to collect a low shot from Shaun Clarke.

Half Time 0-1

Borough continued to pressure after the interval and Sean Hebdon latched onto a clearance from a free kick but saw his shot whistle over the bar. On 58 minutes Warrington hit a shot on the turn from just outside the area which went narrowly wide and a minute later Paul Getley teed up a cross for Perry 10 yards out but he was denied by a well timed last ditch tackle.

But against the run of play Stourpaine increased their lead on 62 minutes when they broke down the right and with Doug Shear unable to get his hand to a high cross aimed towards the far post, Jamie Haylock ran in to steer the ball home.

Borough continued to press looking for a way back and Getley saw a shot smothered by Ackerman while Perry was again denied by a fine defensive tackle. With 15 minutes remaining Dan Young sent in a low cross from the right which Ackerman appeared to have allowed to slip under his body, but the keeper did well to recover and smother the rebound as Perry looked to hook in the loose ball.

As they pushed forward, Borough were leaving gaps at the back and on 80 minutes Shear did well to race off his goal line and block a shot at point blank range as a Stourpaine forward broke through, while Young was also forced to make a fine tackle to deny a visiting in the final minutes.

Borough: Doug Shear, Matt Welsh (Dan Young 75), Danny Herrington (Tony White 47), Gary Fooks, Sean Hebdon, Shaun Clarke (Andy Barham 56), Scott Orchard, Simon Edwards, David Perry, Anthony Warrington, Paul Getley.
