Westland Sports (0) 2, Poole Borough (0) 0. Dorset Premier League Saturday 6th May 2006 Two goals in the last 10 minutes saw Westland Sports secure victory which means Borough are unable to overtake their opponents and claim a top six finish this season. For Borough Dan Cockwell made his first start of the season, while Ben Truan and Aaron Woldon were paired up front. In a tight first half, neither side were able to fashion an early chance and Boroughs first clear opening came on 17 minutes when a left wing corner was flicked on to Alex Allen but the final shot was just off target. Westlands responded two minutes later with a long range effort which struck the crossbar. On 33 minutes Doug Shear did well to palm away a stinging drive and Matt Morris was on hand to scramble the rebound clear under pressure but at the other end Borough were unfortunate not to capitalise from a well work free kick from Danny Neville which picked out Woldon who slid the ball wide to Truan but a defender just managed to clear with the Borough striker bearing down. Tony White then forced the home keeper to block a cross from wide on the right with his legs but the final action of the half saw Westlands break down the left and the resulting cross picked out a home striker but his shot was blocked by Shear. Half Time 0-0. The second half saw the game open up and on 53 minutes Woldon sent Matt Bircumshaw wide down the right and his cross to the far post was met by Simon Edwards but the home keeper got across well to parry the shot. Borough carved out their best chance on 59 minutes when a Westland attack broke down and the ball was cleared to Edwards who in turn sent Truan clear down the right but the home keeper was quickly off his line to block. Westlands through began to gain the upper hand and a Borough clearance fell to a home forward but he blasted over from close range and on 74 minutes a stunning drive from 30 yards out came back off the Borough post. Borough created another chance on 77 minutes when Edwards rode two tackles on a run into the area but he was unable to get any power on his shot and the keeper collected. However Westland took the lead on 80 minutes when the Borough defence looked for an offside decision as a through ball picked out Mike Rousell, clear on the left, but the flag stayed down and the home striker ran through to convert. Borough pushed forward looking for an equaliser but Westland exploited a defensive error to double their lead deep in injury time when a Neville back pass fell too short and Danny Warr nipped in front of Shear before slotting past the Borough keeper.
