Borough Scorers: David Perry 24, Ben Truan 61, Simon Edwards 86.

Borough finished the season with an emphatic victory against Westlands to make amends for the defeat in the corresponding fixture played the previous Saturday. David Perry returned to lead the line after almost six weeks out with a hamstring injury and celebrated with a goal which enabled him to finish top DPL goalscorer ahead of his strike partner of last season, Jamie Holland.

The match was preceded by a moving tribute to Youth Club Secretary Bernie Stanley who sadly died two weeks previously as players and management from both the Senior and Youth sections came together in the centre circle to hold a minute's applause before letting off gold and black balloons in his memory.

After a quiet open exchange the first clear chance fell to Aaron Woldon on 13 minutes after being picked out in space on the left, but he shot narrowly wide, while a minute later Perry got his head to a cross but the visiting keeper collected.

On 23 minutes Lee Thomas collected the ball wide on the right, inside his own half and set off on a strong run, cutting inside and riding two tackles before slipping a pass inside to Perry whose shot went just the wrong side of the upright. However a minute Borough took the lead when Sean Hebdon headed a deep left wing corner back across the goal and Perry arrived at the post to bundle the ball home.

Westland came close to equalising on 31 minutes with a close range shot which cannoned off the bar. But four minutes later Perry saw his shot from a corner come back off the bar and the loose ball came out to Hebdon whose header was blocked by the keeper.

Half Time 1-0

Borough continued to pressure after the break and an early chance for Woldon saw him lift his shot over the keeper but the ball just cleared the bar. Perry again went close on 56 minutes with a blistering free kick from 30 yards towards the top right corner which the Westland keeper kept out with an athletic save.

Ben Truan replaced Perry and made an immediate impact as he combined well with Matt Bircumshaw on the left and he drew the keeper before picking his spot in the bottom right hand corner.

Westland though came close to pulling a goal back on 69 minutes as a Matt Morris back pass was intercepted but the final shot hit the side netting and a later corner picked out a visiting forward unmarked at the far post but the resulting header went wide.

However Borough still maintained control of the game and wrapped up victory four minutes from time as Dan Young set off on a strong forward run before knocking the ball wide to Shaun Parker whose resulting far post cross was met by Simon Edwards on the half volley to steer the ball home.

Borough: Doug Shear, Dan Cockwell (Dan Young H-T), Tony White, Danny Neville, Sean Hebdon, Matt Morris, Matt Bircumshaw, Simon Edwards, David Perry (Ben Truan 57) Lee Thomas (Shaun Parker 64) Aaron Woldon.
