Premier League Borough had to make a number of changes due to unavailability for this midweek fixture with Ollie Carvell, Luke Murphy and Chris Lyth all making their first starts for the Hornets. Blandford kicked off the game and forced an early save from Doug Shear after only four minutes following a long ball forward from a Blandford player. The Royals however took the lead on seven minutes, after a shot was headed off the line by John Bates a home striker reacted quickly and put the ball into the net. On 15 minutes Blandford had another shot which went just over the top of the bar and five minutes later Dan Young saved Borough from conceding another goal, showing quick reactions to head off the line. Minutes later Young was in action at the other end, taking on four players with a skillful run down the left wing, appeared to have lost the ball but battled well to retrieve it before ball before passing to Lee Thomas whose shot went narrowly wide. Following his return to the first team squad on Saturday, Kieran Campbell again looked impressive up front, holding the ball up well in the hole and also making some good passes, while Lyth commanded the back for the first half giving encouragement to all the team. Half Time 1-0 Jason's team talk at half time saw the players come out with great positive attitude after the break and they battled well straight from kick off, as they looked for a way back into the game. And 10 minutes from the restart Borough equalised when free kick from Matt Morris inside his own half hit Bates on his shoulder as he ran in from wide from wide before coming off his head and into the net. A minute later another free kick by Morris was only cleared as far as Luke Murphy who volleyed narrowly wide. On 58 minutes a good corner from Dillon Hooper picked out to Simon Linard who headed into the path of Campbell whose shot went just over. Continued Borough pressure saw a long period of passing football from the Hornets before Linard slotted the ball down the line to Lee Thomas who outpaced the defender but shot narrowly wide. Thomas found space again minutes later but as he was about to shoot he was caught by a defender and his final shot went wide. Borough continued to dominate and Murphy played a great ball to Hooper who ran through the defence but shot just off target. However although Borough continued to carve out chances and were unlucky not to have scored on at least two further occasions they had to settle for the draw. Report from Lewis Smith |
