Premier League A Paul Getley goal after ten minutes was enough to give Borough their first win in seven games in an entertaining game at Turlin Moor against a youthful Blandford side. Ross Mills got in a good cross from the right and Getley was unmarked at the far post to head home. Four minutes later Borough should have increased their lead when the Blandford keeper Shane Hanham brought down Lee Thomas in the area, but the keeper made amends by saving Paul Harding's penalty kick. Blandford came back and Sean Hebdon had to make a last ditch tackle to deny a shooting chance. Blandford had their best chance to equalise five minutes from half-time when the lively Steve Smith dispossessed Simon Linard, but the striker's close range shot was too close to Borough keeper Adam Nash, who was able to gather the ball. Half Time 1-0 Borough looked dangerous at the start of the second half and had several chances to increase their lead. Defender Darren Rudd ran from the half way line and got into the Blandford area but shot just wide, then a Harding free kick found Getley at the far post but Hanham blocked his header. There was a goalmouth scramble with several shots blocked before Mills beat his marker to set up Steve Russell in front of goal, but the Borough forward missed the ball as he attempted to shoot. Borough were nearly made to pay for their missed chances when Smith saw Nash was off his line, but his attempted lob was off target. Blandford continued to chase the game and a series of corners and long throws caused problems for the home defence. Thomas broke forward for Borough, but was tripped on the edge of the area and Harding's free kick curled wide of the upright. In the last minute a long ball over the Borough defence saw Blandford charge forward, but they were halted by an offside decision that lead to the visitor's Sam Stanley being sent off for dissent. |
