Dorset Premier League
Saturday 24th February 2007

Borough recorded their first league victory since October coming out on top after a nine goal thriller at Chapel Gate, with debutantes Shane Duggan and Gary Williams both on the score sheet for the Hornets while Under 18 keeper Lloyd Leonard also played his first senior game for Borough.

Sports were a goal up after five minutes when a quick throw from wide on the left was sent into the penalty area and Dan Bagley arrived unmarked for an easy tap-in. On 12 minutes Steve Russell was forced to clear a shot from a Sports corner off the line, but a minute later the home side doubled their lead when the Borough defence lost the ball on the left allowing a cross to the far post, which was met by Bacley with a downward header to beat Leonard.

Borough though began to get into the game and came close on 17 minutes when a Paul Harding through sent Dillon Hooper through down the middle, but his first time shot went over. Ten minutes later Harding again sent Hooper clear down the right and his shot beat the keeper but want just the wrong side of the far post.

The Hornets deservedly pulled a goal back on 29 minutes when Williams collected a pass on the edge of the Sports area and hit a well struck shot on the turn which dipped over the home keeper and into the net.

Half Time 2-1.

Borough continued to apply pressure after the break and drew level on 62 minutes when a quick through ball from Harding sent Andy Barham through on the right, and the ball was pulled the ball back to Duggan to drive home a low shot.

Continued Borough pressure well worked free kick from Harding gave Russell space for a shot which was blocked and Duggan was then denied by a double save from the home keeper. Borough though completed their recovery by taking the lead on 68 minutes when Barham got his head to a left wing corner at the near post to divert it home.

Sports though were stung back into action and Leonard parried a shot at point blank range on 70 minutes, but four minutes later he again did well to block a low free kick into the area, but Bagley was on hand to complete his hat-trick by dispatching the loose ball

Borough though were again in front on 78 minutes when the home keeper spilled a Barham left wing corner and Duggan was on hand to bundle the ball home. Again though Sports go themselves back in the game on 82 minutes as Borough lost the ball in the centre circle allowing a quick forward pass to send Lee Russell clear on the right and slot past Leonard.

Within a minute though another Borough corner saw Barham pick out Russell on the edge of the area and his shot goalwards was diverted past the keeper by Sean Hebdon. Sports however still have chances to secure a point as first they broke through, but the final shot cleared the bar, and deep in injury time Leonard got across well to palm away a free kick destined for the top corner.
