Poole Borough (0) 2, Bournemouth Sports CM (0) 1. Dorset Premier League Tuesday 22nd August 2006 Borough Scorers: Sean Hebdon 65, Dan Young 75. Borough gained their first win of the season over bogey side Bournemouth Sports, who they had failed to get a single point against in the previous two seasons. There were several changes to the previous game's line-up and Borough started brightly. James Stickland was unlucky when his overhead kick hit the bar and then a high ball found Sean Leaton unmarked in the area, but the ball was cleared away. Sports keeper Steve Fudge was forced to scramble away a Matt Morris shot from wide on the left as the ball nearly found the net at the near post. Borough were having a good amount of possesion and forced a number of corners. Stickland was put through by Darren Rudd, but Fudge came out quickly to block his shot. With half-time drawing near Sports almost took the lead when a volley from outside the area was pushed onto a post by Paul Hubbard, who then recovered quickly to deny Tottingham a chance on the rebound. Borough's forwards were frustrated by a number of offside decisions and just before half-time Stickland protested too vigorously and was shown the red card. Half Time 0-0 Things got worse for Borough immediately after the break when a mis-hit shot fell to Tottingham who scooped the ball over Hubbard from close range. Substitions were made to try and get back into the game, Dan Young coming on for Leaton and Paul Harding replacing Paul Getley. Borough were rewarded after 65 minutes, when a quick free-kick found Keith Middleton on the left and his cross was headed home by Sean Hebdon. Ricky Mee then came on for Steve Rusell and ten-man Borough took the game to their visitors. Harding's perfect corner on 75 minutes was headed into the top corner by Young to give Borough the lead. Mee had a shot tipped over and a diving Middleton header was held by Fudge as Borough finished the game the stronger. |
