Premier League Completing their first league game for nine weeks, a strong recovery, capped by an injury time strike from Dillon Hooper saw Borough salvage a point after three goals in 15 second half minutes looked to have given Bridport Reserves their fourth successive victory against the Hornets. Paul Getley carved out an early chance for Borough as he cut inside from the right, but his low shot was blocked by Nick Carroll in the visitors goal. As the half progressed neither side was able to carve out a clear opportunity until on 26 minutes a through ball from John Bates picked out Getley in the area facing away from goal and he laid the ball back to Mills who saw his shot saved by Carroll. Bridport came close on 28 minutes when the Borough defence struggled to clear the ball which allowed a shot from just outside the area which went narrowly wide. Within a minute through Paul Harding found some space and his shot from 25 yards out was just off target. As the half progressed, Borough began to increase the pressure, and on 40 minutes a slick three man move as Mills send a first time pass wide to Andy Barham on the right who send a low cross into Getley on the edge of the 6 yard box and his shot on the turn was blocked by Carroll. Three minutes later a Mills met a right wing corner from Harding with a firm header, but Carroll was equal to the chance a kept the ball out with a fine one handed save. However Bridport struggled to clear the loose ball and in the melee Steve Russell was brought down in the area and the referee awarded Borough a penalty, which Paul Harding duly dispatched, to give Borough the advantage at the break. Half Time 1-0 Bridport started the second half stronger and three minutes after the restart a header from a left wing corner went just the wrong side of the near post. Borough though came close to increasing the lead on 57 minutes when a Getley shot from a corner was cleared off the line and three minutes later Mills broke clear down the left but his shot on the angle went wide of the far post. However within a minute Bridport had drawn level as a visiting forward went down under a challenge in the area and Ben Clarke stepped up to convert the resulting spot kick. And worse was to come for Borough on 67 minutes when a quick breakaway down the right caught out the home defence and a low cross to the far post was converted by Clarke from close range despite a desperate attempt by Darren Rudd to keep the ball out. With Borough chasing the game Ricky Mee replaced Harding to bolster the attack, but the job became even more difficult on 74 minutes when a Shear clearance was charged down by a visiting forward and the loose ball fell to Tristan Gale who coolly lobbed the Borough keeper. Shear though made amends a minute later as he denied Carl McClements at point blank range as Bridport looked to run riot. With the game opening up Dillon Hooper exploited the space well down the left and on 77 minutes he sent a quick ball inside to Mee who steered his first time shot just wide. And Borough gave themselves hope two minutes later when Russell picked out Mee on the edge of the area who played a well timed ball into the path of Mills, who picked his spot to dispatch a low shot past Carroll. Borough pushed forward looking for the equaliser and Hooper again found space down the left before centring to Mills whose header just cleared the bar, but with gaps opening up at the back Shear was again forced made another fine close range block to keep Borough in the game. Borough nearly capitalised on 87 minutes when Sean Hebdon drove a cross into the area, but off balance, Mills could only steer the ball over. However as the game moved into injury time, Andy Barham collected a loose ball in the centre circle and threaded an inch perfect pass into the path of Hooper who out ran two defenders before knocking the ball past the advancing Carroll and followed through to roll the ball home to give Borough a deserved share of the points. |
