Borough had to survive an onslaught from the home side in the last five minutes to hold on for a draw at Cobham, but it could have been very different had they turned their earlier dominance into goals.

The Hornets had the best of the early exchanges and on 5 minutes Dan Young battled his way into the area from the right before cutting the ball back to Dillon Hooper who blazed over. On 11 minutes Steve Russell got to the left goal line before crossing to the far post where Hooper steered his header narrowly over.

Borough did get the ball into the net on 15 minutes when Young converted a high ball into the area by Sean Hebdon, but it was disallowed for offside. However Borough took a deserved lead three minutes later when a long drop kick from Doug Shear left the home defence flat footed leaving Russell through on goal and although his shot was blocked by the home keeper, Hooper was on hand to tuck home the rebound.

Borough though appeared to relax and on 25 minutes Sean Hebdon was forced to clear his lines after a low shot beat Shear and two minutes later a fine through ball split the Borough defence allowing a home forward clear on goal, but Shear did well to palm away the final shot.

Borough were forced to make two changes towards the end of the half as first Darren Rudd was victim of a crude tackle from behind while Ross Mills was also taken out of the game by another bad challenge.

Borough still maintained their offensive and Hooper carved out some space before shooting wide from outside the area, while in stoppage time Hebdon got on the end of a free kick but his header was off target.

Half Time 0-1.

Borough could have wrapped the game up with a number of chances after the break. On 59 minutes Paul Harding played a short free kick to Russell and the resulting shot curled just the wrong side of the far upright, while minute later Hooper saw a shot cannon off the keeper.

Borough's best chance to double their lead came on 63 minutes when Hebdon headed a free kick on to Mee whose shot from close range went over the bar. Russell then came close again after latching on to a clearance from a corner but his shot went wide.

And Cobham made the Hornets pay for their missed chances on 73 minutes when the visiting defence was unable to clear a left wing corner and the ball was scrambled home by David Housell at the far post.

Sixteen year old Kieron Mulvey came on to make his Borough debut and almost immediately found space down the left and Russell got to the end of the cross with a downward header which the home keeper did well to palm away at point blank range.

Into the last five minutes Cobham sensed the chance to steal a victory, pushing Borough back and creating a succession of close range chances all of which the Hornets defence managed to scramble clear or ended with a shot off target leaving Borough to hold on for a point.
