Dorset Premier League
Saturday 3rd March 2007

Borough extended their unbeaten league run to three games with a hard fought draw against the Magpies at Turlin Moor. The Hornets saw the return of James Stickland and Sean Leaton to the club, both players having left earlier in the season.

Stickland nearly made an immediate impact as he broke clear down the left and his cross found Dillon Hooper on the far post, but he was unable to get in a clean shot. Borough though had to make an early change when Gary Williams sustained a foot injury on 11 minutes ans was replaced by Steve Russell.

Chances were at a premium in the first half, but Borough did came close again on 14 minutes when a Shane Duggan overhead kick from wide on the right picked out Stickland five yards out but Coward in the visitors goal did well to block the shot.

Within two minutes Doug Shear was in action, blocking a low shot at full stretch and the Borough keeper made another fine save a minute later to parry a shot at point blank range by his left post to keep the scores level.

At the other end Coward was again called upon to deny the Hornets on 36 minutes after Stickland broke clear down the middle and squared the ball to Duggan on the edge of the area, but the Magpies gloveman was again equal to the shot.

Half Time 0-0

Dorchester started stronger after the break and saw two early chances clear the crossbar. It was Borough though who took the lead on 61 minutes as a through ball from Stickland sent Duggan clear and he made no mistake to slot a low drive past Coward for his third goal in two games.

Shear was called on to make another vital save on 70 minutes diving full length to steer a low drive past the post. And from the resulting corner a Dorchester player got a close range chance, but put the ball over.

The Magpies however put themselves back on level terms on 79 minutes when they were awarded a free kick just outside the left corner of the area and Darren Watts stepped up to curl the ball into the top right hand corner.

Borough almost restored their lead within a minute as Dan Young centre from the right picked out Duggan at the far post, but his downward header was scrambled clear by Coward. On 84 minutes Duggan turned provider, playing Lee Thomas into space but his angled drive went just the wrong side of the upright.

However with the game opening up, Dorchester also carved out chances in the final minutes, although Borough nearly snatched the victory in the final minute when Stickland got clear down the left but his low cross just alluded Kieran Mulvey at the near post.
