Borough chalked up their second successive victory against Wessex 1 opposition with a good all round performance at Main Road. Dan Herrington scored his third goal in pre-season with a tap in to give Borough a deserved lead, but the home side drew level before the break after Common were awarded a penalty, which Lee Kelly converted.

Borough though won the game following an excellent build up of passing football, which James Ely capped off with a close range conversion.

Borough: Adam Nash. (Paul Hubbard), Darren Rudd, Sean Leaton (Karl Griffin), Danny Lomax (Dan Cockwell), Matt Morris, Dan Herrington (Marc Vincent), Andy Barhan, Paul Getley (James Ely), Paul Harding, Kieran Campbell (Steve Russell), Ricky Mee.

Poole Borough (3) 7,
Bashley (0) 0.
Pre-Seson Friendly
Tuesday 25th July 2006

Borough provided an excellent performance against Bashley side made up predominately from their Wessex Combination squad, with the Hornets functioning well in all departments to carve out an impressive victory.

John Bates gave Borough the lead with a flying header, before Ricky Mee doubled the score as the speed of the Hornets front line stretched the opposition defence. Borough went into the break three up as Darren Rudd made a good run from right back to be in position to tap home a low cross.

Half Time 3-0

Borough continued to dominate after the break and James Stickland came off the bench to drive home the loose ball after a Kieran Campbell shot was blocked on the line and Stickland netted his second with a far post header to convert a testing right wing cross from Campbell.

Campbell scored the goal of the game to notch up Borough's sixth as he ran onto a through ball before cutting inside the last defender and dispatching a blistering shot from the edge of the area. It was left to Stickland to complete the scoring and collect a well deserved hat-trick as Campbell sent a teasing ball forward and Stickland battled his way between two defenders before slotting home.

Borough Squad : Goalkeepers: Paul Hubbard, Adam Nash. Defence: Darren Rudd, Matt Morris, Simon Linard, Sean Hebdon, Dan Cockwell, Stuart McFarland. Midfield: Dan Herrington, Paul Harding, Keith Middleton, Paul Getley, Marc Vincent. Forwards: James Stickland, John Bates, Ricky Mee, Kieran Campbell.

Verwood Town (2) 5,
Poole Borough (0) 0.

Pre-Seson Friendly
Saturday 22nd July 2006

More of a trial match than a competitive fixture as Borough fielded a separate side in each half and a total of 29 players to allow Giles and Jason to run the rule over the available players who have been involved in pre-season training prior to slimming down the numbers for the mid-week friendly against Bashley.

Borough came close to opening the scoring in the third minute when Paul Harding hit the upright with a curling free-kick from 25 yards out. However the home team took the lead three minutes later when Mark Vincent inadvertently headed a left wing corner into his own net.

Borough struggled to build up some rhythm, and Verwood took the initiative with some swift forward play which stretched the Borough defence. Former Borough striker Ben Truan was the thorn in the Hornets side as he forced a fine block from Doug Shear after he ghosted into the area on 26 minutes and four minutes later he took the ball past Shear but shot narrowly wide.

Truan though found the net on 30 minutes with a strong drive from the edge of the area which beat Shear just inside the right hand post. Before the break Shear pulled off another fine save at full stretch to push a low drive past the post while at the other end, Borough struggled to carve out more than half chances.

Borough (first half): Doug Shear, Sean Leaton, Matt Morris, Simon Linard, Sean Hebdon, James Stickland, Paul Harding, Marc Vincent (James Ely), John Bates (Daniel Wills), Keith Middleton, Aaron Woldon (Dylan Hooper).

Half Time 0-2

Borough were caught cold five minutes after the break as Truan found space down the right and his deep cross was headed home at the far post . A minute later Borough carved out a good chance, as Kieran Campbell sent a low cross from the left into the path of Ricky Mee but the final shot was saved by the home keeper.

On 56 minutes Chris Lyth was harshly judged to have brought down a home player in the area and Matt Bircumshaw stepped up to slot home the spot kick.

Campbell came close to pulling a goal back for Borough on 61 minutes with a 20 yard shot which wend narrowly wide and this sparked the best period of the game for the Hornets as Jermaine held the ball well before slipping a pass inside for Campbell who sent Phil Midson clear but the final shot was blocked. Midson also saw a free kick float just over and Dan Cockewll also was unfortunate to see a long range drive just clear the bar.

Two minutes from time however Verwood completed the scoring after James Fairbairn in the Borough goal made a good point-blank block but Borough failed to clear the loose ball and the home side capatilised to slide a shot home.

Borough (second half): James Fairbairn, Dan Cockwell, Ben Hadfield (Paul Pearson) Dan Lomax, Chris Lyth, Paul Getley, Danny Herrington, Andy Barham, Luke Murphy (Jermaine), Kieran Campbell (Dom Glen), Ricky Mee (Phil Midson).
