Dorset Premier League
Saturday 30th September 2006

Borough found themselves tasting their heaviest defeat of the season so far, but the score was no reflection of the game with the Hornets in with a shout until two breakaway goals in the final 20 minutes sealed victory for the Bulls.

The first clear chance fell to Holt on 8 minutes when Lee Bradford got his head to a near post corner, but the ball went just over. A minute later though a short pass from Borough's Steve Russell picked out Keith Middleton just inside the Holt area and his shot on the turn was held by visiting keeper Terry Martin.

With a strong breeze in their favour, Borough created the better chances and on 16 minutes Paul Getley struck a drive from 20 yards out which went just over while two minutes later Russell latched onto a centre across the Holt area, but his shot from a narrow angle was off target.

Holt though were dangerous on the break and Adam Nash collected a blistering shot from Lee Bradford while Simon Linard did well to clear a dangerous through ball with an overhead kick.

Borough came within inches of taking the lead on 28 minutes when Russell found space down the left and whipped in a cross which Andy Barham met with a low glancing header but the ball came off the far post.

It was Holt however who opened he scoring on 37 minutes when they broke quickly down the left and the resulting cross was steered home by Jason Lovell at the near post. Two minutes later Perry got in a shot from just inside the area, but if flashed across goal.

Any chance Borough had to draw level while the wind was in their favour was curtailed by the referee who inexplicably blew for half-time four minutes short of the 45 minutes.

Half Time 0-1

With conditions now favouring them, Holt started the second half brighter and an early shot from Scott Bedward went narrowly wide, while a Lovell header from a Tony White free kick also went the wrong side of the upright.

Borough started to make inroads again and on 60 minutes Stickland just failed to connect to a Ross Mills cross as he clashed for the ball with keeper Martin, a collision which resulted in the Borough striker going off injured.

Holt though doubled their lead on 71 minutes when Linard was unfortunate to be wrong footed by a bad bounce as he looked to cut out long clearance forward and Lovell latched onto the loose ball and got to the left by-line before centring to David Perry who bundled the ball over the line from close range.

Worse was to come for Borough eight minutes later with Lovell again the provider, carving out space down the right before crossing to the near post to Perry, whose shot was kept out by a combintion of a brave block by Nash and the post, but the rebound fell to Dan Pidgley to convert

Borough pushed forward looking to a consolation goal and Martin did well to block a volley from Mills on 82 minutes while two minutes later the Holt keeper also denied John Bates at point blank range by his left hand post. And three minutes from time Sean Hebdon sent in a fierce volley from a right wing corner but the ball cannoned off a defender on the line
