Dorset Premier League
Saturday 21st October 2006

Borough and Rec. shared the points in an entertaining local derby at Magna Road. With Borough missing Andy Barham and Keith Middleton, Darren Rudd came back into the starting line-up as did Ross Mills who started on the bench the week before.

The home side made the perfect start, going ahead after only three minutes when a defensive header from a Rec. corner fell into the path of to Crispin Rigler who hammered home the loose ball from close range.

Borough however were back on level terms after quarter of an hour when the home defence struggled to clear a forward pass and Ross Mills collected the ball just inside the area before picking his spot past Kevin Leonard to notch up his first goal for the Hornets.

Within two minutes Mills came close to doubling his tally with a well struck free kick which went narrowly wide, and Borough also forced a series of corners as they looked to take the initiative. However the Hornets were undone on 34 minutes when a quick Rec. counter attack picked out a forward in the area and his shot struck Matt Morris on the arm resulting in a penalty which Rigler duly converted.

Rec. also saw a low shot go narrowly wide, but Borough finished the half stronger as Simon Linard headed a corner just wide before Steve Russell picked out Dylan Hooper with a low centre from the left but the resulting shot was blocked by Leonard who collected the ball at the second attempt.

Half Time 2-1

Lee Thomas replaced Steve Russell after the break and made an immediate impact with a low shot which forced a fine save from Leonard. Two minutes later Hooper sent in a low shot from the left and a home defender got just in front of Rudd to divert the ball for a corner.

Hamworthy were still proving a handful up front and after Adam Nash could only parry a fierce shot, Sean Hebdon got across quickly and made a brave tackle to deny a home forward a shot on the open goal. With the game opening up Thomas saw a shot deflected wide on 52 minutes while a minute later Dan Young headed a shot from a home corner off the line.

Borough had a let off on 62 minutes as a left wing corner picked out Rigler six yards out in front of goal, but the usually deadly striker steered his shot over the bar.

Into the last 20 minutes Borough stepped up the pressure, but they struggled to break down a well drilled home defence. However three minutes from full time Hooper whipped in a left wing corner and Paul Getley arrived at the far post to finish with a bullet header.

There was still time for Borough to claim all three points and Thomas got clear of the home defence only to see his shot palmed away by Leonard while Mills headed a corner just over.
